One moment some 80 people are walking on a big city street. Suddenly a blinding light appears that transports them to a very peculiar racing course. A voice sounds in everybody’s head : “The school, the house and the prison are safe. Follow the arrows or you will die. Stay on the path or you will die. If you’re doubled twice, you will die. Do not touch the grass or you will die. Race or die.” Whether you’re rich or poor, old or young, blind, strong, handicapped, courageous or a coward; the rules make no distinction. There can be only one winner !

The Human Race Audience Reviews

Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
ericrnolan "The Human Race" (2013) isn't really the under-recognized gem that I was led to believe it was — it's actually mediocre in some ways. The dialogue is downright bad, the acting is mostly below average, and the limited special effects budget definitely shows. It … still held my attention, though, thanks to a devilish story concept and some brutal plot turns. (Eighty diverse strangers are mysteriously transported to an isolated location, where powerful unseen entities force them to eliminate one another in a "race" to the death.) I do realize that there have been a spate of low- budget, "Saw"-inspired movies like this, and that this kind of story device should be familiar to horror movie fans by now.But there is some pathologically wicked story development here — consider, for example, that contenders include an elderly man, a pregnant woman and a veteran who has had a leg amputated. And while several contenders make heroic choices, several others take a sociopathic glee in eliminating their opponents. Writer-director Paul Hough might be terrible at writing dialogue, but he does know how to craft a surreal horror story with some horrific and unexpected turns. (Yeesh.)There is also a standout performance by Trista Robinson as a secondary character. (She is the more tenacious half of a deaf couple who are teleported and forced to compete.) In a film with little admirable acting, she still plays her role with skill and intensity. This is a talented actress. All in all, this is a flawed low-budget film that is still decent fare for a horror fan. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10.
The Couchpotatoes Science fiction is one of my favorite genres in movies. Certainly when it makes you think that it could happen in the future. But with The Human Race you don't have that perspective. It just a thing you know it will never happen. Nothing wrong with that if the movie would be any good. And that's where the problem is, the movie is just nothing special. It is just boring to watch. You expect some kind of explanations about how and why all those people got there in the first place but after a while you know you won't get the answers. It could have been much better if they would not drag some scenes like the ones with the deaf people. It was a disappointment to watch. I won't watch this one a second time, that's for sure.
Jack Miller *Contains Spoilers* From the first few minutes, you can tell that this is going to be an absolute turkey. So many times I thought 'I should turn this off now as I'm wasting my life' but it got to a point where I thought I should just finish it, in case something amazing happens at the end...The fact that the movie begins by focusing on the life of a young woman, creating a back story for her and her family, with an array of short scenes lasting about 16 seconds each, would make you think that she would be the protagonist in this feature. Well, I was mistaken, as she is then killed off a few minutes later. I thought that something would happen later to revisit these initial scenes, but again I was sorely mistaken. The first ten minutes have nothing to do with anything. Lazy filmmaking. With that out the way, it gets into the main storyline which I believe is an interesting concept. Loads of people in a random place, no idea how they got there and having to take part in a race, a survival of the fittest. This concept however is poorly executed. If you don't follow the race path you die, if you step on grass you die and if someone overtakes you twice you will also die. This is repeated in the movie about 50 times, just in case you forget the rules. Everything that follows in the racing scenes appears to be loosely thrown together, mainly relying on improvisation and the various stereotypical characters barking/fighting with each other. You can't really identify with any characters and none are likable. The deaths aren't particularly gruesome and there are a vast number of laugh out loud moments which I'm sure the filmmakers didn't intend. The ending is just preposterous. You are left wondering what has just happened in the last 90 minutes of your life. PS2 graphics are also abundant in the final scenes. I have no idea what the writers were thinking.I feel as though the good reviews on this site have been left by people involved with the film and their friends, because nobody in their right mind could actually LIKE this. Definitely do not buy. It's on Netflix though, so if you want a movie that is so despicably bad that it becomes hilarious, then I would recommend.
DianaColorsOfTheWind Been into independent film lately and when I heard of this one I needed to see it right away. I was not disappointed. I can honestly say I loved every second of it. I am not necessarily a sci-fi fan, there are only a couple that I am a huge fan of, but now The Human Race is making that list as well. Great concept, exciting, characters I like, I was thinking about this movie a lot after I had seen it.I won't spoil anything for anyone, but if you like exciting movies with unique concepts and actors that you aren't sick to death of looking at like Tom Cruise, then this movie is for you. I do hope there are more independent movies made like this. Anyone can tell that love and time went into this project. I kind of wish I could bring friends over to my house to see it, but my friends suck so I know they won't. I hope more people spread the word.
