The Jacket Audience Reviews

Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Noutions Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
wordimobi Sign of the times that we live in that Hollywood can turn any subject into formulaic banality, even when handed an example of pure brilliance from another century.
peteroravecz-99823 I've watched this movie out of desperation, as I've found nothing better I haven't seen before. While it starts off boring, slowly it starts to get better, still fails to redeem itself. It was released in 2005, and I suspect it did not age well. There have been better thrillers about similar things - even before (like The Butterfly Effect or Frequency). The main problem is that this movie is not smart, the main character does nothing to change his own fate (which he inadvertently does just to make the movie more cliché), and does not even think about what is happening. I did not feel challenged to think, there were no surprises or brilliant ideas that the genre would demand.Adrien Brody does some very poor one-sided acting here and there, which I assume is fan service. The supporting actors are much more interesting, and deliver layered performances. The music, script and directing, meh, all mediocre. The special effects are not bad for the time, but they serve no real purpose. This could have been so much more if it dares to be philosophically challenging.
skybrick736 To start, yes, The Jacket shouldn't be really close to any consideration as a horror film but that is contrary to the internet movie database's classification. Receiving a horror label presents the opportunity for discussion since the film leaves a lasting impression on the viewers on so many levels. Without giving too much of anything away, the film can be summed up as dark, romantic thriller with a strong tale based on time-travel and redemption. Filmmaking was impeccably constructed, bestowing a cold and somber atmosphere with great casting calls consisting of Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley as the main leads. The Jacket is a tremendous psychological piece that won't scare or shock but is highly imaginative and emotional.
Python Hyena The Jacket (2005): Dir: John Maybury / Cast: Adrien Brody, Keira Knightley, Kris Kristofferson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kelly Lynch: Riveting thriller about confinement in both mind and body. Adrien Brody plays a war veteran who is picked up by a cop killer and framed for murder. He is locked in a straight jacket and tortured by images that could foretell the truth. Clever and surprising but the time line makes no logical sense. There is also no plot solution regarding the real cop killer. Directed by John Maybury with an agonizing sense of torture by Brody who is locked in a morgue slab and haunted by images that could reveal the truth. Keira Knightley plays a mysterious woman seen in flashbacks. She is a key to his past and also to his future. Kris Kristofferson plays a sadistic doctor running an experiment where Brody becomes the subject. Jennifer Jason Leigh plays a doctor caring for a sick child. She becomes interested in Brody's case and aims to help him when she realizes that he is innocent. Kelly Lynch appears as the alcoholic mother of a young girl by their truck, which has broken down. This also factors into the Brody's mental state. Well produced thriller with great use of lighting particularly during morgue scene where Brody revisits his fears. Although it doesn't always gel together effectively it does present a strong theme regarding piecing together our sanity. Score: 8 / 10
