The Seasoning House Audience Reviews

SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Adam Baehr I will start off my review by saying that I have seen some of the most disturbing films ever created those of which being "The Human Centipede", "Martyrs", "A Serbian Film" twice, "I Spit on Your Grave" and "Hostel" along with many others so I'm very calloused when it comes to not flinching when watching Graphic Content but this movie hit my core like a punch from Saitama. I will now start with the story which is about a girl named Angel who is a deaf mute who is forced to work in a prostitution house in the Balkans of the late 1990's. The story progresses when she meets the soldiers that killed her family at the house and fyi that isn't a spoiler that is in the base synopsis of the movie. I will now head to the acting department which was cast Superbly seeing as I didn't know anybody outside of "Sean Pertwee" whom I love as an actor. The main protagonist Angel who is played by "Rosie Day" was Absolutely Amazing in her role and everyone else did a tremendously great job. I will move onto the action which is hard to define so I will combine but action with psychological aspects. I mean the action scenes are among some of the most grueling and painful to watch scenes I have seen for an extremely long time and very bloody. I will now go into the psychological aspects of this movie. I mean I had a hard time watching this film and as I mentioned prior I have seen a ton of stuff. I mean the subject matter and what it portrays on the screen is harsh, grim, cruel, heartless and incessant the whole time. I literally had to force myself to watch it until the end. I wanted to go through the screen and kill these sick individuals myself. The location was shot very well in a disused Air Force Base doubling as a brothel house so it mainly stuck to the one house the entire movie. I will close by saying this is Paul Hyett's second movie I have seen but his first movie made because I watched "Howl" the other night and it was Incredible. I will finish with this and that is that this movie is gut-wrenching to watch and will more then likely make you feel there is no longer any hope for civilization if you haven't already lost that but this is a Must-Watch movie that will question everything you hold dear considering this still happens in today's society all around the world. I'm honestly at a loss for words but just prepare yourselves for one of the the most unsympathetic and barbarous films you will ever watch and have a wonderful day.
TdSmth5 A girl crawls through a vent, walks among a bunch of sinister men, is told to prepare the girls, grabs a box with needles and drugs, and drugs some girl laying on a filth bed. Next we go back to the day she herself arrived at the place. She and a bunch of girls are taken to the house. They meet the boss, Viktor, who tells them he'll take care of them if they take care of him and that trust is key. He grabs some girls and cuts her throat to make his point. We go back and forth between the present and the girl's past. She's deaf and during the Balkan war her family was killed by some military unit. Now she's enslaved in the filthy whorehouse but she's the one whom Viktor trusts. She feeds the girls, drugs them and puts make-up on them when the customers arrive, most of whom are violent. When a girl is beaten to death she cleans the body. And in her spare time she wanders through the vents and crawlspace.A new set of girls arrive. On of them knows sign language and befriends Angel, the deaf girl. One day a customer breaks the pelvis of Angel's friend but that doesn't keep Viktor and some doctor from forcing her to continue to work. When some militia arrive, Angel witnesses how her friend is killed during sex. She tries to intervene and in a struggle ends up killing the huge customer. That infuriates the militia commander. He's someone we've met before, he was in charge of the raid that killed Angel's family--what a coincidence. Now everyone is after her but she escapes through the crawlspace with one guy chasing after he. Eventually she escapes the house. Viktor, the commander, and his brother pursue her. Somehow she'll have to survive. The Seasoning House is one of those movies that wears you down by the sheer and relentless ugliness and hopelessness of it all. The story is obviously unpleasant, everything is dirty, ugly, and nasty visually, well, except for Angel. Making her deaf and unable to speak is an unusual choice. But it's almost the next logical step in movie-making that enjoys keeping dialogue to a minimum. Another surprise is that this movie could have turned into revenge horror but it never does, in spite of some calling it a revenge thriller. The movie is occasionally very gory. But like most movies these days it portrays men in the worst possible light. There's not a single decent guy in this movie. Things do occasionally slow down quite a bit and clearly there's not a whole lot of story or script but the lovely Rosie Day makes it all bearable.
CHUPA CHUPS A story that sadly happened already in these parts trough the recent history and maybe is happening again and again in the part of central balkan KOSOVO.Even if all the killings in the war that happened there over the years the main responsible was the Serbes ,Albanians and Croats it is known that all the bordels and the main sources of drugs and weapons are held by Albanians and only Albanians .Why then writer choose these caratchters to be serbes with authentic names.I find it very offensive to the Serbian nation. The story line i find it very very good but the acting is very poor the scenes are very common and already seen in every horror movie ... Don't watch this save your time for something special.
westsideschl Cinematography was spot on (and at times graphic); acting beyond spot on; flow and directing couldn't be better; props and sets thoughtfully engaging; creative storytelling in showing abuse of power by armed militias, in this case, shown in Eastern Europe. And, as we all know, still occurs throughout the world in it's various manifestations. The story also delves into how that abusive, power enabled mind set, carries over into extreme abusive manipulation of girls and women. Forewarned: Graphic displays of abusive prostitution and close up killings, but shown to enhance the impact of the message. Do we see justice properly served with a feel good ending - well, watch and see. Don't let the cover mislead you into thinking it's a cheap horror flick. It's nothing like what the cover suggests.
