The Uninvited Audience Reviews

SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Bergorks If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
ireneanderson-91060 I went into this film expecting nothing special but it was far better than anticipated with a good twist at the end. For me the lead actress did a good job in portraying the story along with a great performance from veteran actor David Strathairn who is good in all he does. Some good surprises along the way enhanced this cool mystery horror which most certainly keeps your attention throughout.
lewiskendell The Uninvited is the epitome of today's, PG-13 date/horror movie. It's uncomplicated, packed with jump moments, and it has the obligatory twist at the end. If you haven't gotten thoroughly tired of this kind of thing by now, then The Uninvited might be worth the price of two movie tickets. The film mainly focuses on its trio of gorgeous female stars (Emily Browning, Elizabeth Banks and Arielle Kebbel). None of them are required to do any acting heavy lifting, but they all serve their parts well enough. The only quibble I had was with Banks, but she probably only seemed miscast because of the last few roles that I've seen and enjoyed her in.Anyway, as this is a modern, mainstream horror film, it's not very scary. The twist ending may or may not come as a surprise, but it doesn't really add much to the film. Check this out if you're a fan of any of the actresses or if you're bored. But don't expect to be frightened or particularly satisfied by The Uninvited.
David Arnold After being away for a while in a psychiatric hospital due to not being able to handle her mother's death and trying to commit suicide, Anna returns home to live with her father Steven, his new fiancée Rachael (the nurse who took care of Anna's mother during her illness), and her sister Alex. Also, ever since her mother's death, Anna has been experiencing hallucinations, but as the visions continue, she sees that they are actually OF her mother trying to tell Anna what really happened the night of her death with everything pointing towards Rachael. Alex & Anna start investigating Rachael's past and they start to dig up evidence that indicates a much darker side to Rachael and that she isn't who their father thinks she is.The Uninvited is actually an American remake of the somewhat creepy Korean film, A Tale of Two Sisters, and isn't actually too bad of a movie itself. I actually think that The Uninvited is a bit more creepier than the Korean film with a good amount of suspense throughout. There's no doubt there will be a bunch of people condemning this movie as being "Americanised", but instead of listening to the moaners and anti-Hollywood crew, watch it yourself and enjoy it for what it is....a decent psychological thriller. The Grudge was an American remake of Ju-on but was still enjoyable. As was The Ring. I thought the Asian versions were better BUT that didn't stop me from enjoying the remakes. Like A Tale of Two Sisters, The Uninvited has a very good twist to it and it needs you to pay attention for you to truly get what is happening. The story does get to a point where you do think that's it's not that original and you've seen it all before...until you get to the twist which makes the movie. Decent cast as well with David Strathairn as Steven and Elizabeth Banks who does well to portray Rachael as such a b*tch. Not an amazing film, but still a good one nonetheless.
Leofwine_draca THE UNINVITED is ANOTHER redundant remake of an Asian horror, the original in question this time being the Korean A TALE OF TWO SISTERS. If it wasn't for the original movie, this wouldn't be bad at all, coming across as a mildly spooky horror/mystery combo with a decent twist at the end.Sadly, having seen the original first (thank goodness) I can report that this is the inferior film in every respect. It feels like it's been dumbed down for US audiences, the narrative simplified and the mystery reduced to its most basic levels, a simple whodunit-style murder yarn with a couple of ghostly scenes thrown in for good measure. The problem with THE UNINVITED is that it fails to be scary - the couple of ghost scares we're treated to having been too obviously copied on the likes of THE GRUDGE - and the acting isn't much to write home about. I didn't mind Emily Browning's protagonist so much, while David Strathairn is great given the right role (as in THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) but wasted here while Elizabeth Banks is completely over the top and detracts from it. The twist ending would have been great if we hadn't seen it all before, leaving THE UNINVITED far from the worst of the remakes out there, but hardly a great movie in itself.
