Ensofter Overrated and overhyped
JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
caramia2002 I never imagined Oklahoma could be so atmospheric, and I grew up there. I think this a movie you either love or hate. It is visual poetry and you must think for yourself. And requires more work than most are willing to put into watching a film. So to each their own. Oh, why is the light of love so often cruel? Even God's? I related to Marina quit a bit and have known more than one Neil, alas. People who suck the love and energy right out of you. Take all you give, pretending otherwise, and put nothing back. Even the priest feels this in his own spiritual relationship, as he sees life from the bottom up. That is what I got out of it, among other things, but this is a movie that is very personal, so my experience won't necessarily be yours. Gorgeous photography, music that pushes the film forward and elicits emotion. A story told in beautiful images. Marina's hyperactivity was her love taking physical form and expression. When sad, she slowed down. Sucked dry. When you turn to another to recharge, even though that is no answer, and you are cheating on yourself as much as on your partner. Affleck/Neil was well cast, as he played a statue. Or more like a drain, pulling Marina's freely given love down and out. Their genders could have been reversed. This was not a commentary on men or women. As what was the priest in that scheme? I could go on, but what a great way to spend a couple hours!
MrsPAK It's a wonder this film was ever made. It's not To the Wonder. It is Too Too Awful. I am stunned that Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem signed on to make this drivel. I am stunned that I watched to the end. It's such a failed attempt at an artsy movie. All of the twirling around outside and whispered minimalist dialogue and just bizarre stuff like Marina licking a tree outside. And the flashbacks and flash forwards...too much weirdness. I don't want to see any of these actors again for a good long time because I am ticked off at all of them.

Their church's Spanish-born pastor struggles with his faith, while Neil encounters a woman from his childhood. To The Wonder is a 2012 Drama starring Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Rachel McAdams. Now when i first saw this film i hated i thought it was stupid and i never wanted to see it again and today after all those years i tried again and honestly it's still a boring mess. The entire film is about Kurylenko running away from Ben Affleck as he chases her and every once in a while they break up. The film also is spot on Terrence Malick style it has weird camera angles and a lot i mean a lot of shaky cam, the performances are not that great and it's definitely the scripts fault because all 4 actors of this film are talented if you don't believe me just watch Javier Bardem in Skyfall (2012) and Ben Affleck in Argo (2012). The good news is that the movie is not as bad as Knight of Cups (2015) a film that Malick would also make later on starring Ex-Batman Actor Christian Bale that was completely a big failure. Overall To The Wonder (2012) is a boring mess that goes nowhere and does nothing and the talented Cast is just trapped in a film that really is zero interesting in anything that it's trying to be or do. (4/10)
AgentSniff There is a amazing film in here, somewhere. I love the music choices, the actors and the cinematography. There are some really interesting scenes in here. But the film falls on Malick's usual traps. The Thin Red Line was saved for me when we actually got to know the characters a bit better. But the fault of Malick is his love for voice over and character's running around in pretty pictures. In the scenes where the characters actually gets to act against one another are great. And do not think Malick should have thrown all voice over and all silent moments. They are especially effective in the first part of the film when Olga Kurylenko & Ben Affleck fall in love. But it simply gets tedious when that's the entire film. There are scenes like when Affleck throws Kurylenko out of a car which could have been amazing, but because the way the film is made it loses a bit of it's impact. The scene where Javier Bardem talks to the janitor in the church was amazing and it became even more apparent that Malick really can direct actors in the scene with the friend played by Romina Mondello. If only Terrence Malick did not edit all these moments away, his films would be much better.
