Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
221bucky Okay sit down y'all, because I'm going to tell you a story. The story of the WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN.A few days ago, my friend and I were having a phone conversation like we do most days. We were talking about what movies were out, do we want to go to the theater this weekend, etc., etc. My friend suddenly burst out laughing, like she just remembered something. "What is it?" I asked. Poor, naive me from a few days ago. "You've gotta come over," my friend said between peals of laughter. "My mom got me this movie, and it's the worst movie I've ever seen. You have to see it."Foolishly, I agreed. I went over to her house, we loaded up on ice cream and popcorn, and my friend put in the disc.I would have rather gotten a tooth pulled. I'm pretty sure my eyes started bleeding at some point during this film.Waiting For Forever is what some might call an original story. I would say it's more like several clichés wound into a confusing series of subplots, wrapped up in a headache-inducing patchwork of goofy sweetness and depressing issues that the movie didn't even begin to tackle in the way they deserve. The cherry on top is the honest-to- God murder. We've got the quirky main character who marches to the beat of his own drum. We've got the main character's normal family who is concerned for his well being but just can't get behind his life choices. We've got the workaholic who hasn't seen her family in years because she's focusing on her career. We've got the workaholic's dysfunctional parents who love her. We've got unrequited childhood love. We've got lots and lots of walking and talking (but Before We Go did it better. If you're looking for a heartfelt indie romance, watch Before We Go.).Oh yeah, and the murder. Can't forget about that one.The main character in question, Will, is without a doubt mentally handicapped. That's not even a question. He's dealing with delusion and pain following a traumatic childhood event of which he didn't process his grief properly. He should be getting therapy, not be labeled as "harmless" and "whimsical". My favorite character was Will's brother, because at least he recognized his brother's problems and wanted him to get help. Everybody else in this movie is just an enabler.Rather than seek the help he needs, Will opts to travel around the country, stalking his childhood best friend Emma. He conveniently leaves the stalking part out when he shares his life story to the people he hitchhikes with. He wears blue checkered pajamas with a black vest, a black bowler hat, red converse and a single hoop earring. I wish I was making that up. And I really wish I could have a chat with the wardrobe department. According to Will, pajama pants help his legs move better or something, which he punctuates by rolling around the patio like he's having a seizure.I'd also like to note that he makes his living by juggling. JUGGLING. HOW?!?!?!?! How the heck does someone make a living by JUGGLING??? My eleven year old brother can juggle. If he went out on the street and tried to juggle, I definitely would not give him money.Emma's parents are equally creepy. The worst moment in the entire movie was when Emma's mom basically told Emma's dad that she wished he was dead, after the dad said some pretty hurtful and awful stuff from his spot in the bathtub. It was too horrific to be laughable, but the acting was too bad to be taken seriously. I was left stranded in some borderland of shock and revulsion.Oh yeah, and then there's the subplot where Emma's ex (Warner from Legally Blonde, except he's bald now because of God-only-knows-why) accidentally murders a guy by pushing him into a table. You read that right. Gone are the ridiculous spy movies where characters survive falls off ten story buildings. This guy died because he was pushed into A FREAKING TABLE. A TABLE. I'm getting angry just typing it.The movie ends with Emma and Will ending up together. There's a great message. If your childhood love doesn't like you back, follow her around the country for a few years in your pajamas until she realizes how special you are.
mklinsao Okay, this movie is really bizarre. I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad, but it's really strange that the creators try to sell it as a romance. In order for anything about this movie to make any sense, you have to look at it as a drama, NOT a romance. The main character, wandering hopeless romantic Will, clearly has some sort of mental illness, likely related to the trauma of losing his parents at a young age (not a spoiler). He has the emotional maturity of a small child, but the movie seems to play it off as whimsical idealism: he's mostly portrayed not as a seriously deluded man but as, for lack of better term, a manic pixie dream boy. The audience is evidently supposed to find it charming that a man of 25 has no job, wears the same dirty clothes every day, and spends his life stalking his childhood friend without her knowledge, fantasizing about their nonexistent relationship. The only person privy to Will's mental instability is his older brother Jim, who is made out to be the no-fun bad guy for merely pointing out the truth about Will. The movie is semi-enjoyable in the context of a drama dealing with mental illness, unsettling and dysfunctional if you're expecting a romance. Will is a creepy character; there's no way around it.
amberhelenawriting This is one of the most terrible movies I ever watched. What a waste of time. I even finished the movie hoping it would get better, but it got worse and worse. If you feel like watching an absolutely depressing movie, with the most ridiculous plot lines and bad acting watch this. The main character is a stalker with severe mental issues, his brother is rude, his friends are absolutely naive... Also, this is everything that happens to the main characters: both Wills parents died in a train crash, his mom had cancer but didn't tell him, Will talks to his deceased parents out loud, thinking they are still there, Emma's father dies, her boyfriend murders her lover and she is being stalked by Will for years. Doesn't this sound like the kind of things that happen in a C-film? Yeah, they do. But in the end Emma doesn't seem upset about her fathers and lovers death, she doesn't seem upset about her husband to be murdering one of them. No, she just realizes she's in love with the guy who used to stalk her and had an imaginary relationship with her. Seems legit.
buggiexd I'm really fond of watching indie chick flicks, aside from the fact that it's indie, most of them comes with an awesome soundtrack. Yeah thanks so this movie, Mostar Diving Club is now one of my fave Indie bands. Now going back to the film, i love it because the movie just captures what TRUE/DEEP LOVE means. I'm a sappy person that's why i truly understand why i'm drawn to this film. As a kid, Willie knew he loves Emma, they parted somehow, now they're adults and Willie in his own obsessive/stalkerish way, he pursued her. He was sure she was 'It' for him. For me that's what this movie is really trying to convey to us. If you love someone you just don't give up on her/him. You find ways how to get that person. Although Willie is practically Emma's stalker, he never really meant to hurt her, he's simply Waiting for his Forever. So yeah i give this movie an 8. Idk what the 2 points missing, i will figure that out eventually :))
