The story concerns a sculptor who visits a fishing village, where he marries a fisherman's daughter who dies in childbirth. Grief-stricken, he returns to the city, where in a Vertigo-like moment he sees his dead wife's lookalike - an opera singer. He later becomes jealous and strangles her with the tresses of his dead wife.
