While I consider myself a connoisseur of cryptid movies, I couldn't decide where to place this one. The positives were great acting and direction. I might even give the story line a nod except that the ending was anything but satisfying. All that aside, I'm just not easily enticed by camcorder/found footage type films. Maybe I can't give this one a fair shake given my stance but I'll give it a 4 for the acting.

WILLOW CREEK is yet another example of a found footage horror film, one that almost exactly copies the plot and style of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. It was written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, the actor best known for his roles in the POLICE ACADEMY series, if you can believe that. Unfortunately the film suffers from a slow pace and an almost entire lack of incident, so that it feels stretched and lifeless for most of the time.The early scene-setting clips aren't bad, even if the main couple who act as the film's protagonists are quite boring and devoid of life. The dialogue all too often descends into meaningless profanity instead of being witty or realistic. The acting is merely okay. The set-up promises plenty, but once the action shifts into the woods very little actually happens aside from the usual weird howling and discovered tracks. The 21-minute single-take tent scene smacks of padding and feels extremely tiresome, and the ending is as predictable as they come.

It's nothing you have not seen before. Acting... trash...neither of these hacks... Bobcat included should be allowed near a camera again. This is especially true of that'Gilmore *beep*. Bobcat should be banned from all computers , tablets, and even pens, pencils and paper. He can write with crayons and Crayola markers, that's okay. I cannot forgive this theft of time, even though I hate my life.Seriously though, put aside my resentful idiocy, and see that this crap is not worth your time. I really am trying to help you; this whole subgenre of horror is filth, and Willow Creek is a queen. Keep away and have a nice day.

In my review for the mediocre found-footage/horror film 'Followed' I talked a bit about my dislike for how serial murderers are often portrayed in cinema. While Se7en was a good thriller, it epitomizes IMO the problem... Serial Killers murder for sex and power, and usually a bit of both. However, fart too often, movies seem to depict them as these brilliant psychopaths whose sole purpose in life is to get into a game of 'cat and mouse' with their equally brilliant adversary, that is, whatever detective Morgan Freedman might be playing in any given film. What's frightening to me about serial killers is that for the most part they go undetected and often get away with multiple homicides for years. That, and to top it off, they blend in with the outside world very well. That is what Willow Creek gets right-there is a hint of realism here on top of the campy thrills that separates Willow Creek from your average slasher film.This is one of the few movies that I actually felt a certain sense of dread for our hero's, Jim and Kelly-which is a big thing for me, as it takes a lot more than gore and a loud bump to make me jump.I would like to also mention that I thought the actors did quite well-not only the killer, but the protagonists as well. I thought Jim was really likable, which is another surprise for this type of movie, which usually has very poor character construction.Worth the watch.
