Windcroft Audience Reviews

Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
thrillkill-2 The DVD box is covered with a dozens awards and glowing quotes from legitimate critics - so already my expectations were high. And honestly, the movie didn't disappoint.Windcroft starts as a love story about a man going through a mid-life crisis who inherits the family farm. He returns with his newlywed wife to sort through the place and almost immediately the dread begins to pile on. The atmospheric tones of the music and the camera work set a pace for building and building tension throughout the movie. Once the ex-girlfriend comes in the picture, the love story turns into a love triangle, and then it unravels as this tightly wound thriller that I never saw coming - but was still believable.Sure, this may not be a glossy Hollywood thriller, but for the apparently very low budget this was made with, it was very impressive. Even the documentary on the DVD was enjoyable. There were tons of behind the scenes clips and very little "ego stroking" which is what I hate about most DVD featurettes.I easily recommend this to anyone looking for the next wave of talent, because this little movie has it in spades.
mark-detroit This film is so saturated with bad acting, cheesy attempts at tension building, crap music, and almost no plot. If you have to watch this film, watch the last 15 minutes. The rest of the movie is a very long horrible attempt at saying "Hey nice lady, your husband is a sister raping murdering nut job, and his sister is crazy too. You should go get a divorce, but first literally run for life." All the good reviews on here are so very obviously written by people affiliated with the film. They should be really be tossed onto a pile of hay-covered barbed wire for making this cinematic abortion. I'm actually feeling cursed for not being blind.
chicagopoetry I think at some point this movie had potential but that potential mostly slipped away. What it lacks is subtlety. Sure, the music is eerie, foreboding and urgent, but the problem is that the music never stops, from beginning to end, even when nothing creepy or urgent is happening, so by the time the stuff that is suppose to be scary does start happening, it all just sounds like muzak or a high school kid strumming on his guitar in his bedroom. The plot is pretty confusing and the main character's transformation from Mr. Normal into Mr. Hyde happens suddenly without foreshadowing, and even the crazy woman jumping out of the darkness at the end is so poorly timed that it doesn't induce any shock value. Windcroft isn't a total waste of time for a rainy Sunday afternoon if you've seen just about everything else that's out there.
Ari Taub Wow--this was really a great film. I saw it at the film anthology archive last week, and did not know what to expect. First time Director Evan Messaros hits us with a drama that gets into our dreams. The cinematography was beautiful, the tension riveting, and the story unnerving. Terrific job all around. The film was not unnecessarily gory or exploitive. I don't think it fits in the "horror" category, maybe independent suspense thriller--if there is such a category. The acting was really good and the tension built up from the very first shot until the very last shot. Also, if you like coyotes, Upstate landscapes, spooky country houses, and barns, this is the film for you...
