If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Why wasn't Kate Winslet nominated for an Oscar? The best movie of 2017. No credit for Woody? Politics? Excellent character development.
I'm actually not a huge Woody Allen fan. But I must say that this film sucked me in and held my attention the entire time. I could kind of see where it was going, but the production values and especially the acting was top notch. I actually even enjoyed the dialogue and felt Kate Winslet should have received an Academy award nomination. I don't believe she did but she blew me away. Jim Belushi was quite good as well, Timberlake was decent too. All in all it was worth the watch, but a pretty sad movie to me. I thought the ending was perfect despite many people feeling it just ended. I feel that's how life is sometimes, not always happening or ending the way we expect. A very solid movie in my book.
My wife and I each watched this movie, at different times, on Amazon streaming. Woody Allen has made a practice of writing and directing one movie each year and this is the one for 2017. The novelty is that it was made for Amazon with limited release, mostly in foreign countries, but available for streaming. It is a typical Allen movie with tangled relationships and infidelity as a main theme. The sets, especially for interior scenes, look more like a stage play than a movie, and the characters speak broadly with large gestures, commonly using words and phrases that Allen prefers.None of that is good nor bad, it is just how it is, a Woody Allen movie. A couple in the 1950s living and working on Coney Island, both their second marriages. Her son loves to set fires, some in very dangerous places. His daughter returns after a hasty marriage to a man connected to the mob. They have lots of arguments, they shout at each other a lot.I enjoyed it as 90 minutes of entertainment, it has a somewhat dark ending as the daughter disappears after a date. Kate Winslet has to carry the whole movie and she does it very well.

Act One, Scene One: The introduction by the narrator. Act One, Scene Two: The Apartment. This Woody Allen film looks like a play, is played like a play, therefore, it is a play. Sometimes I couldn't tell at times, whether I was on Broadway or sitting on my living room couch. If you like Woody Allen movies, then you'll like this play. If you don't, then pass on this one.
