Y Tu Mamá También Audience Reviews

UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Humbersi The first must-see film of the year.
Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
jaymistry-64120 This movie is beautiful with a beautiful story...it is fun road-trip drama with an ending that surprised me...from a time where movies had decent story..I am so sick of mindless action superhero movies nowadays with explosions and firing, I have actually started watching 90's and early 00's movies which have story attached to them...go for it...i really luved this one...!
Necromancer Sak Definitely not above 7. It doesn't deserve such a high ratings.Off beat? True, but not much depth. One time watch and that too will depend on the mood you are in. Here's the small synopsis... Two friends(referred as guys) living in Mexico City meet a cousin's wife, Luisa, at a wedding during holidays while their girl friends are visiting Europe. The guys plant a little idea of getaway in Luisa's head. And when Luisa's husband confesses that he cheated on her, she calls one of the guys and asks them about the getaway. What a way to overcome your sadness with a couple of boys? Boys will be boys...why should they refuse? A chance to have some fun and they did not have anything better to do. So voila...the road trip begins. Not much depth to their conversation. It is acting and energy of the guys that keep the movie going. They share stories, smoke, fool around, and eventually get into the known territory. Hey what do you expect? When two boys go on a road trip with a hot adult who is desperate. And wait..the ending, a cliché..not much there too. Not a great script. If you happen to read some reviews about it, you will probably want to watch. In between, you will realize that the script is not great, the dialogues are okay, the acting even worse, and no breath taking closure. My favorite part is the eleven points in manifesto and how these guys get excited while talking about it to Luisa in the car. Narration made no f******* sense. What the heck was it for? So why is narration used in a movie? One to bring a party's view which is different from what's already being shown on screen. Two to tie different parts of stories together.Three to delve into prelude which has a bearing on the story. Four, to introduce elements such as a character into the story. In which category does it fall?
drnedev From the second half of this otherwise elegant film the viewer realizes that the reason the young lady is sad & depressed is because she is terminally ill. Obviously she is decided to spend her last carefree vacation before she dies. The script would be fine only if cancer WAS NOT a contagious disease. Cancer has a virus-like etiology (HPV16, 18, rotavirus...etc.)and is in fact a contagious disease. Obviously the script-writer is not aware of this scientific fact. Thus the young lady from a romantic character becomes a villain. She knows very well that she is infected with cancer but nevertheless she has sex with two yang boys - thus infected them as well. It is a terrible crime, not a careless adventure. In such way the movie from romantic masterpiece becomes a tasteless thriller.
akash_sebastian The way Alfonso Cuaron shifts from a Children's novel adaptation (A Little Princess) to a classic novel adaptation (Great Expectations) to an adult road-trip movie is really fascinating. 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' is one of my favourite road-trip movies, but to call it just a road-trip movie would really be an understatement; not only is it a thrilling journey of sexual exploration, but also a nuanced exploration of some of the most pressing socio-economic issues of our time. The narrator gives us interesting character histories, and intriguing but haunting societal insights which make the story quite gripping, and makes Mexico a character as well. Other than that, as critic Roger Ebert says, 'it (the movie) is about the fragility of life and the finality of death.' And the film is funny as hell; its humour is quite well-placed. It takes the genre of teen sex-comedy to completely new heights.Class-division really plays an important role in establishing relationships; even in the best of friendships, there's always a deep-seated impact it has. No matter how close we are to someone, we always keep a few things secret. A free-spirited road-trip cum sexual adventure boils down to a night where true feelings and pinions come out in the open; things are never the same after that. The three lead actors, Gael Garcia Bernal, Maribel Verdu and Diego Luna, are really talented, and given riveting performances. Other than the three characters and Mexico, we invisibly become a part of their journey and their lives. The cinematography is spectacular, and captures Mexico with such elegance. The one-shot scene towards the end, in the bar, which starts with conversation and ends with a dance, is quite a remarkable sequence. The passionate kiss which comes after this scene is sensual and memorable. The film is quite observant, doesn't compromise anywhere with its storytelling, and doesn't take any moralistic stance on any aspect; that's what makes the film so gripping and compelling.
