You, Me and Dupree Audience Reviews

BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Python Hyena You, Me and Dupree (2006): Dir: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo / Cast: Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson, Michael Douglas, Lance Armstrong: Total bore fest about intrusion as recently married Carl and Molly house a lazy and irresponsible lout who wrecks havoc on their lifestyle. The trailer contains the few laughs existing in this sitcom exercise. It took two directors to make this trash. Anthony and Joe Russo for whatever reason conceal the identity of a woman set up on a date turned disaster and it is never capitalized upon. Why didn't they show her face? Perhaps she read the script and wanted spared the embarrassment. Owen Wilson mugs every scene he is in as he unintentionally destroys the home of this couple. Matt Dillon plays Carl as if his testicles were in a vice grip. Kate Hudson as Molly goes from frustrated to downright sympathetic to the actions of Dupree. Michael Douglas is wasted as her father who dislikes Carl. You would think that he would dislike the script too, but whatever. Lance Armstrong plays himself and he picked the stupidest project to get his face recognized in. Theme regards the gradual change between the Dupree lifestyle and a devoted marriage. Unfortunately the screenplay didn't have as much thought go into it as the idea behind it. At one point Dupree watches Roman Holiday. That is much better than what he was actually in. Score: 1 / 10
SnoopyStyle Dupree (Owen Wilson) is the lovable slacker best man for Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon)'s Hawaiian wedding. Carl is working for his property developer father-in-law Mr. Thompson (Michael Douglas) who keeps trying to emasculate him. Molly is a schoolteacher. Dupree becomes homeless and jobless. Carl takes him in for a few days which Molly reluctantly accepts. However, a few days don't last a few days.Dupree is the house guest that overstays his welcome. He makes me want to kick him out and that's how I feel about the movie. It could still work with Owen Wilson as a likable goof but Matt Dillon is too intense of an actor. The chemistry is off. It would be better if Carl is played by a comedian or somebody with a lighter touch. It also makes Carl's later jealousy much harsher and darker. None of that is particularly funny.
David I'd heard some bad things about this but thought I'd check it out anyway cos sometimes hype is wrong.First off it's well made, looks great, got some good people in it - Douglas, Wilson, Dillon, Hudson, Rogan, Hader. So it's not all bad - I think 1 star is a bit harsh.I know it's "just a comedy" but even so ... I found myself feeling increasingly sorry for Dillon's character. In a staggering act of altruism he takes in his down-and-out friend right after he's just got married. He's not doing it for his benefit - it just complicates his new domestic situation and doesn't benefit him in the slightest. Does the wife support him in his charitable act? Hell no, she gets all judgy and stern about it.His, presumably mentally ill, friend makes zero effort to keep a low profile or make it work but instead seems to go to great lengths to aggravate them both by pulling a succession of inconsiderate stunts. OK so you'd expect the wife to start having a problem somewhere along the line here and of course she kicks into higher gear rage and sternness - by the end of the film her husband is absolutely terrified of her. Hard to imagine how he could feel the same way about her after that.Meanwhile, his father-in-law/boss starts to exploit the fact he's married to his daughter to manipulate and bully him in and out of work. This was all a tad hard to believe. The husband keeps it together remarkably well throughout all this but they just keep upping the ante, including his friends suddenly deciding to throw a party at his house when he's not at home and Dupree masturbating using his sock in their living room, while spending a conspicuous amount of time getting drunk with his wife.By the end of this I just wanted to punch Dupree in the face, bury the father-in-law under his stupid housing development, beam Hudson back in time to an era when a guy wouldn't even ask before inviting his friend to stay, and take Dillon out for a hard-earned beer.OK OK OK so I know I've gone and taken a comedy story out of context. I know that. I do. I'm not a total idiot. Regardless of that though, this was a very predictable weak comedy by any standards. The only bit that really raised a smile for me was the slapstick chase at the end. After the setup it was blindingly obvious Dupree was going to be a nightmare and the wife was going to get angry all the time. I guess the father-in-law thing could've been interesting, but it wasn't. Just not funny writing I'm afraid. Low hanging fruit, already been done to death better. As usual in Hollywood movies, marriage is portrayed as men in indentured servitude to stern wives who they're afraid of and have to ask permission off for everything. What kind of a message is that? Fruthermore, there's just something altogether too perfect about the pretty people with their pretty house and boats. Unless the quality of the comedy is good, to me it just rubs my nose in an imaginary world I know is a lie and that I can never be a part of. The saccharin overdose only works if the script is well written. Otherwise it's just annoying. As for all the Lance Armstrong references - well, that's just bad luck! So I think my three stars are rather generous but they're for the production values and some of the acting. The writer and Dupree's stupid face get a minus 10.
ashwinmskr This was one of the worst movies I have seen in my entire life. The storyline sucks so bad. And Owen Wilson is terrible ( I will never see his movies again). The story is about Dupree who loses his house and stays with his best friend who is recently married and he causes havoc in their house. He is so insensitive that he irritates you from the beginning. Kate Hudson is good but she hardly gets a chance to act. Owen Wilson is part producer of the movie and it is all about him anyways.in the climax he tries to set things right but it hardly occurs for a couple of minutes after one and half hours of torture.DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. It definitely is a MOOD SPOILER.
