About a Boy

7.4 | TV-PG | en | Drama

Will Freeman lives a charmed existence as the ultimate man-child. After writing a hit song, he was granted a life of free time, free love and freedom from financial woes. He's single, unemployed and loving it. So imagine his surprise when Fiona, a needy single mom and her oddly charming 11-year-old son, Marcus, move in next door and disrupt his perfect world. When Marcus begins dropping by his home unannounced, Will's not so sure about being a kid's new best friend, until, of course, Will discovers that women find single dads irresistible. That changes everything and a deal is struck: Marcus will pretend to be Will's son and, in return, Marcus is allowed to chill at Will's house. Before he realizes it, Will starts to enjoy the visits and even finds himself looking out for the kid. In fact, this newfound friendship may very well teach him a thing or two that he never imagined possible - about himself and caring for others.

About a Boy Audience Reviews

Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Yash Wade Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
sohit malik You look at this show's name and think it will be just like the fifty five other shows. But this show is amazing. It's so amazing it made me write my first review ever.. Its not just another sitcom..It has smooth comic punches blended with ups and downs of a socially awkward boy's life. I've gone through the whole first season and half of the second, and the show still holds the magic it did on the pilot episode.
jenorenotail-72134 I was told about this show by twenty something friend and so was skeptical about even trying it out. So glad I did. I was immediately hooked on the characters and i love Minnie Driver. David Walton is a super great actor and reminds me of a young James Garner. I hope that he will be very picky about what movie roles he plays because he is Movie Star material. In fact, I loved all the cast members and felt the acting was superior. I loved the script. So thankful I was able to see Will and Fiona kiss before the show was axed. Minnie Driver, Al Madrigal, David Walton, Benjamin Stockham, Annie Mumolo ( Bridesmaids!!)... and the list goes on and on!! How can this show be canceled??
xtophercb there might be spoilers ahead. the show sucks.if it weren't for David Walton there would be no reason to watch.Minnie driver playing a saggy-nag-hag shrew of a hippie-dippie single mother. Benjamin stockham as a yet another nerdy, flaming pre-gay, fake asperger syndrome freakazoid. pussy-whipped hipster best friend with an awful see you next Tuesday of a wife. who are these people? they're not even archetypes, let alone resemblances of off-kilter funny folk based in any reality.give it the big skip-o-Rama. except to watch David Walton. anybody know if he's got a sex tape being leaked?and that theme song. can somebody please kill that guy before he 'drops' a 6th album (or do folkariffic singer-songwriters 'drop' albums? maybe they carefully nurture them in their man-wombs, and let them suckle at the teat of creativity, until they slowly drift off into the world of their own accord?)
h-steele1504 When you take this show on its own, without background knowledge of both the book and the movie, then it's an alright show. However, if you're a lover of the original text, you might want to skip this version. Unlike the original text, this version sets the story in San Francisco. Basically they have Americanized the story. That is not necessarily a problem. But when little inaccuracies pile up, things get annoying. I had to shout a few times, so annoyed at what I was seeing. Marcus singing 'What makes you Beautiful' I mean come on, it what universe would that happen. They have missed the mark with the original story. None of the characters formed enough to make an impression. Will lost any substance he had, Marcus was nothing like the lovable character seen in the book and movie. Fiona's treatment was probably the worst, reduced to a hippie dippy stereotype. The characters lost all what interesting about them, what people loved about them. I have to admit I have only watched the first episode. What a saw was not stellar. It moved so quick, racing through plot points without any development. The relationship between Will and Marcus had little growth, suddenly they were best buds. Fiona 'breaksdown' her serious case of depression passed over in a few sentences. What this episode needed was time, it seemed to be in a rush. Hopefully some developments occur but this episode seemed to be rushing to the end, and not in a good way.All in all, this show is just another run-of-the-mill sitcoms, nothing special. It does not hold true to the fantastic book and movie in which it shares a name. I cannot recommend this show, but do checkout the original texts.
