Amanchu! Audience Reviews

ThiefHott Too much of everything
SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Tweekums Futaba Ooki moves from the city to a coastal town where she meets and befriends Hikari Kohinata, known as Pikari to her friends. Pikari is a keen scuba diver and soon has Futaba joining the school scuba club… which might seem a little strange given that the latter can't even swim! The two are very different; Futaba is distinctly introvert and Pikari is more extrovert but they get on well. Once Futaba is in the club we are introduced to its other member; brother and sister Makoto and Ai Ninomiya, the club adviser Mato Katori and the club cat. Over the course of the series Futaba learns how to swim and the basics of diving; all the time looking forward to the day when she will be qualified to swim in the sea with Pikari.Anime series about school girls in special activity clubs seem fairly popular these days and this is a pretty good example of the genre. The characters are all likable and Pikari in particular provides a lot of laughs. The character designs are distinctive; these designs frequently change to show then in a slightly more cartoony manner than usual… this is especially true of Pikari. This doesn't detract from the series; in fact I found it added to the cuteness. The designs are quite similar to those used in 'Aria – The Animation'; no coincidence I'm sure as we eventually learn that the club cat is named Aria and looks just like the cat in that series! Overall I'd definitely recommend this series. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
