American Odyssey Audience Reviews

Lawbolisted Powerful
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Paul Creeden As an American with a realistic view of the dulling of my culture by corporate media (Comcast's NBC-Universal in this case), I was still stunned by the level of absolute stupidity in this production. The writing is abysmal. Forced coincidence. Characters who are outright stupid. A nauseating sound track. Child characters who are much smarter than any adult character. The 'smart' lawyer who is shocked when his key witness gets killed by dark forces. The key whistle-blower who walks to a meeting with a government prosecutor in full uniform in the middle of the day and doesn't even use a crosswalk to cross a Manhattan street. The same lawyer shows off his extra-covert evidence to a suspect colleague and is then shocked when betrayed. The son of a renowned journalist who never asks an a undercover assassin for her press credentials and tells her every secret. The escaped soldier who cannot even pretend to be a deaf mute and makes her first phone call in safety to the commander who obviously set her up. Was this script submitted as a high school homework assignment? Even the violence is done badly. A wall of a small room explodes and manages to kill one person who happens to be the bad guy. The paramilitary bad guys appear instantly and are met with no resistance or suspicion by trained military personnel. The escaped soldier is miraculously saved over and over again with everyone around her dropping like flies. This series is a prime example of how conglomerates destroy truth in art and in media. The twisted melding of propaganda and reality perverted for mob entertainment produces crap like this every time.
jerseyjoea You can knit pick any show about details but this is entertainment and very good at that. It is a stretch to connect the dots to reality but you don't have to. Enjoy it for what it is, a quality show. All shows are somewhat flawed, Homeland, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Etc. you can find faults if you look hard enough. I think the acting is very good as well as the storyline. Sit back, relax and enjoy.I think when you make your point you shouldn't have to streach it out to 10 lines, that's absurd. geoff_turner Critics have attacked this, but I found it just as credible as Homeland. We all know how deeply US corporations have been involved in war in Iraq, providing private security, and helping generate the misery that we see in the Middle East today. The bullying of Greece over its debt was also a nice realistic touch. OK, it is just a fictional story, but it is as credible as Homeland, which in later series became rather tedious and dragged out. It was also just as far fetched. The idea that the US would take any form of action against their ally Pakistan was utterly incredible. They allow this terrorist sponsoring state to have nuclear weapons without batting an eyelid, while threatening Iran. They need states such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as allies, even if they are the most extreme Islamic states in the world. As entertainment, I felt it kept the pace up well right until the last episode. Pity it has been dropped now, but I guess follow up series often tend to get weaker and weaker (except Breaking Bad, of course!).
abrego1-398-438138 Lower your expectations and you will always be happier. Come on this is a TV series and forget how outlandish or technically incorrect it is at times. If you distrust our government in some of the things it does let it be your X file. " The truth is out there" according to agent M. Do you believe that huge corporations could benefit from war? Do you believe that the U.S. would favor certain terrorists if it meant a Senator or CEO could make a hefty bundle? If you answered yes this show is great. It makes you really believe that the show is dishing out real world dirty underwear and pushing the political envelope. It might make you think some of this is true. I loved the cast, settings, the run, talk, shoot, drive and tension it produces. Maybe it created too much tension therefore I do not believe they will get another season.
