Info

While fighting an intense inter-galactic war, a mecha pilot is accidentally warped into a space-time neither he nor his computer recognize. After waking up from a long-time hibernation, he finds himself trapped on a planet, with human residents talking in an unknown form of language, using inferior technologies, and - most shocking to him - naturally breathable air.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Audience Reviews

BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Console best movie i've ever seen.
BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
DCfan This anime is about a young mech pilot by the name of Ledo. He arrives on earth in a place by the name of Gargantia with his mech; Chamber. Gargantia is a place where humans live at peace but evil pirates come and go but there is a bigger evil ahead. Meanwhile, Ledo who's life was mainly raised being a space cadet is learning how to be a human and fitting in Gargantia. The animation and the art style is very good and refreshing for the watcher. The episodes are very interesting but work of advice watch the second OVA before the first episode and the first one somewhere between episode 5 or 6. That way it would flow better. If you enjoy mech animes like Voices from a distance star, Gundam, Aldnoah Zero, Gurren Lagaan, Voltron or Accel Worlds you might enjoy this.
Julia Arsenault (ja_kitty_71) This anime series is another sci-fi favorite after I watched it. I was going to watch it on Netflix, but I had bought the series on DVD instead. It has been a long while since I had finished the series, so all I could remember is that during a battle in farthest reach of space, a young soldier named Ledo and his Machine Caliber (an artificial intelligent, automated, humanoid-shaped battle suit) called "Chamber" got propelled in a wormhole, and marooned on a strange ocean planet where there are humans there live on what looks like a town and a battleship put together. Reluctantly Ledo adjusts to the lifestyle of the "fleet" Gargantia. Then after much calculating, he had discover that the ocean planet is really the birth place of humanity - Earth.I love the ending theme and I thought Amy's pet Grace is ubber cute! Also I don't have else anything to say about this series other than it has great animation as well as a terrific story. This series also make me want to watch the Kevin Costner movie "Waterworld," only in that movie has different story line then "Gargantia." Overall, "Gargantia" is another awesome anime series.
octopusvidya A quite entertaining anime with 13 episodes (plus two OVA side story episodes) about individuality, duty, compassion, the nature of humanity and laser throwing flying mecha of course.Ledo is a soldier of the Galactic Alliance of Humankind. Born, raised and bred to fight Hideauze, a race of space- faring octopi and the greatest threat to the survival of the human kind in the galaxy. He lives in a quasi- symbiotic relationship with his mecha Chamber. The height of human engineering in the fields of artificial intelligence and warfare.Ledo and Chamber end up stranded on our earth, the long lost birth place of humanity, after they get separated from their fleet during a flight through an artificial wormhole. They very soon have to notice that the humans left on earth are different than their space warrior descendants. They love freedom, good food, entertainment and most shockingly: they help the weak and old people instead of killing them for the greater good. The strong side of this anime are the two main characters Ledo and Chamber. Their character development and attempts to cope with the unfamiliar environment make up for most of the weak points of the show. Another strong side of the show are it's art style and ship designs. What annoyed me the most were the side characters. The three young girls Amy, Saaya and Melty are carbon copies of each other. They seem to have identical personalities, look similar, act the same way and do the same things. Which is especially annoying since one of them is the love interest of the main character Ledo. You could switch them out mid-scene and I probably wouldn't have noticed. Also the elders (or whatever they are called) of Gargantia have severe cases of brain farts every time they show up, they constantly make absolutely irrational decisions and seem to be destined to lead every single one of their subjects into certain doom whenever they have the chance.Overall Suisei no Gargantia ("Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet" in the English dub) is an enjoyable mecha anime. It's nothing special, but it is worth your time if you like science fiction stories about the human condition and a good portion of mecha battles now and then.
Ben Davis This show is good. Not great, but certainly not terrible. The animation and art design are both absolutely gorgeous. Everything looks amazing, from the characters to the environment. Those two things I can say are definitely far above average. Everything else is fine I guess. Nothing very original or jaw dropping, but it didn't really need to be. It was perfectly enjoyable and I was okay with that. It reminded me how I felt about Blue Exorcist. Both are mindless shows with nothing super amazing (besides animation), but they're both enjoyable and fun. If you don't have anything else to watch, this'll meet your needs. It's short and entertaining, who can complain?
