Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Byron Brubaker (hypathio7) This was a Disney after-school TV series. It's not what you'd expect from a Disney cartoon- it's darker, more dramatic, a great mix of sci-fi and fantasy. The story contains awesome plot continuity. As the series progresses more and more mythical and Shakespearean characters pop up and many Star Trek actors provide their voices. From animation voice actor regulars like Thom Adcox-Hernadez, Kath Soucie, Ed Gilbert, Bill Fagerbakke, Jeff Bennett and Frank Welker to more familiar faces like Clancy Brown, Edward Asner, Sallie Richardson, Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes and Keith David the cast is stunning. I stand by my 10-star rating for the story of these heroes! In the last few years, I've revisited this series from my childhood with the Complete First Season DVD set and Volume 1 and 2 of the Season 2 DVD sets. Still a series to share with kids growing up today! However, avoid the third season with its name changed to The Goliath Chronicles.
lumpmoose "Gargoyles" was a series released during the "Disney Afternoon" block of the mid-nineties. What makes it so unique is that it's still the only dramatic animated series Disney TV has ever produced. It stunned people at the time with its tragic plots, realistic weapons, and clear consequences to characters' actions. It's definitely not for young children (the Y7 rating is a good guideline), but don't think it's just another brainless afternoon shoot-'em-up designed to sell action figures. The backbone of this saga is what all timeless fiction must contain: plot and character development. The writing is taut, the acting fantastic, and the animation beautiful, but they are all mere servants to the story, which stays interesting and moderately serialized throughout the entire series (just the first season has been released on DVD, 13 of 65 episodes).Overall, I think this is the best animated television series to ever come out of this country. If you at all appreciate the art form, you'll wonder where this show has been all your life. In a time when comedies are saturating both the primetime and daytime cartoon markets, it's nice to find a gripping animated drama without needing to set your sights to the other side of the Pacific. Highly recommended.
sirengarg Season 1 comes to DVD on December 7, 2004! It will be the entire first season UNCUT. If you have the VHS, "Heros Awaken" and that's all you've seen, you are in for a surprise. Also commentary and footage of the yearly Gathering of Gargoyles convention, as well as other bonus material. A must have for any Disney/superhero/comic/Gothic/etc fan Mark you calenders to get your talons on Disney's best animated series!Gargoyles tells the story of a small clan of gargoyles from Scotland who turn to stone in 994 A.D. and wake up in 1994 Manhattan. With the help of a female cop, Elisa Maza, they seek to protect the city, their new home.
WeirdRaptor I honestly don't understand why this didn't last longer. It was the best. It was full of lovable characters beyond count: Brooklyn, Lexington, Galiath, Hudson, Broadway..the list goes on and on.You'd never settle for the usual crap Disney comes out with after watching this for any length of time.
