Hillside (known as Fifteen in the United States) is a Canadian-American teen drama that aired on YTV in Canada from 1991 to 1993. Created and produced by John T. Binkley, the series was Nickelodeon's only teenage soap opera. The show was shot on videotape, similar to most daytime dramas. The series was first conceived as Fifteen in an improvised form for The Disney Channel, where a 13-episode pilot series was produced and tested in the U.S. After Disney decided not to proceed with the project, Nickelodeon and Canadian partners joined Binkley in producing the series which was known in its first and second seasons as Hillside in Canada, and throughout the 65-episode run as Fifteen in the U.S. The show was subsequently syndicated around the world, with runs in Germany and Israel, among others. The series features a large ensemble cast which underwent several changes over the show's four-season run. Notable cast members include Laura Harris, Enuka Okuma, and Ryan Reynolds.

Hillside Audience Reviews

XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Matho The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
hank frealy I have to agree with most everyone's opinion that this show was poorly produced as well as written. The acting was not much more above the lower production values however I feel an actor can only rely on the material provided to them and make the best of it. In keeping with this thought I feel it is important to point out that one actor has risen and persevered well beyond this campy to tasteless production to have become a respectable and quite talented performer.I am referring to Laura Harris a Canadian born actor who has etched her way through many poorly produced shows and movies to find a place on the HBO hit "Dead Like Me" where she plays the role of Daisy Adair and to her credit she handles this role in an efficient manner.I remember having a typical boyhood crush on the young actress during this series where she played Ashley a soft spoken yet intelligent 7th grader.I felt as though if anyone might "make it" from this series it surely would be Laura Harris and true to her nature she did excel in the acting field to win the respect of many producers who now recognize her for her talent as well as unique Nordic blond allure. If you ever do have the opportunity to view this series I recommend that you have something epic to watch after wards such as the 'Godfather' or perhaps 'Beaches' in order to remind yourself that there is after all a great deal of true production integrity and value out there and that this series is only a low-budget reminder of what Laura Harris can simply state about her time on the show and I bet she would quote many a young actors words of defense by saying "It's a start!"
marksandig The continuing High School saga was a Sunday ritual until it's demise. Who can forget those Canadian accents in the 1st 2 seasons. The non-stop drama with future stars Ryan Reynolds & Laura Harris. It was nice that they used actual teenagers instead of the typical 20 something usuals that appear in teen shows and movies. Down the line there were great characters, Brooke the snob, Jake the loser, Dylan the rebel, Billy (Ryan reynolds) was a rebel wannabe but an OK kid, then he turned into a jerk. Arsemann was nice as was David. Even Chris turned out OK after befriending Russ when he found out Russ was very ill. How about when Chris fired Dylan from the band (teenagers In Love) and replaced him with Roxanne who was a horrible singer. Arsemann was actually a good singer, but quit when tensions rose. The band could only perform one song and what a great one it was..."well i'm too old to cry & too young to fly, but mama says be glad i'm young & don't ask why, because i'm 15, not old enough to be free"....long live Fifteen. Now we just need the DVD's to come out.
Jennifer-matela I use to watch this show. This show use to be on Nickelodeon. They were in high school. All I remember is that Ryan Renyolds character was an alcoholic. OH and his girlfriend on the show was the blonde girl who was the alien in The Faculty, when she talked she sounded like she was whispering, it drove me nuts. REmember the other show when you said water they would dump water on you and when you said I Don't KNOW they would dump slim on you. I don't know if i have another two line left in me. I just wanted to write a quick review ya know. So this is the eighth line. The next line (this one) will be my 9th. So I only have one more to go. The END
breezygirl i have a high threshold for pain: i watched pretty much every episode of "fifteen" when they originally aired. i agree that this is one of the worst shows ever produced and actually aired on television. the "school" consisted of a hallway with a handful of 3 lockers and a lot of empty space. there are maybe 2 or 3 extras, bringing the total school population to about 12. "fifteen" makes "saved by the bell" look like a high class production with good acting. my all time favorite/most hated character was the scheming brook who was oh-so-subtle in her glaring looks and commentary out loud to herself. i can't believe nickelodeon aired this multiple times throughout the week. they should have stuck with more "double dare" reruns.best nickelodeon show ever: "roundhouse."
