Jonny Quest – often casually referred to as The Adventures of Jonny Quest – is an American animated science fiction adventure television series about a boy who accompanies his scientist father on extraordinary adventures. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions for Screen Gems, and created and designed by comic book artist Doug Wildey. Inspired by radio serials and comics in the action-adventure genre, it featured more realistic art, characters, and stories than Hanna-Barbera's previous cartoon programs. It was the first of several Hanna-Barbera action-based adventure shows – which would later include Space Ghost, The Herculoids, and Birdman and the Galaxy Trio – and ran on ABC in prime time on early Friday nights for one season in 1964–1965.

Jonny Quest Audience Reviews

ChikPapa Very disappointed :(
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
El_Rey_De_Movies When I was a kid (you know, back when Hanna-Barbera dominated TV cartoons and dinosaurs roamed the antediluvian plain), there was an incredibly, inexplicably popular show named…"Scooby Doo". But, for those of us who considered ourselves smarter and hipper than the average bear, there was only one cartoon that ruled and it ruled with an iron fist. I'm talking about "Jonny Quest", a combination of pulp adventure, science fiction, spy flicks, horror, drama and comedy that was utterly irresistible to me and millions of other little boys around the world back in the mid-60's. From the opening bars of Hoyt Curtin's driving, jazzy theme song, the opening credits were enough to drive any kid insane: a savage jungle with giant lizards, a mummy, a pteranodon, jet packs, gunfire, fisticuffs, giant robot spiders, hover platforms, giant death rays and then the introduction of the Quest family: 11-year old Jonny, scientific genius Dr. Benton Quest, tutor-pilot-combat expert-bodyguard Roger T. "Race" Bannon, Indian mystic Hadji, and Jonny's bulldog pup Bandit racing around the world to another thrilling adventure in Dr. Quest's sleek, needle-nosed jet aircraft. Jonny and his dad lived in a secluded island fortress-secret laboratory with Race Bannon, Hadji and Bandit. Dr. Quest was a scientific genius working for the U.S. Government, a widower (Mrs. Quest's death is only mentioned once, but the impression lingered that she was killed by bad guys trying to get to Dr. Quest – hence, government agent Race Bannon is assigned to protect father and son) who was constantly called to come up with some piece of super-science or a solution to a strange mystery in some remote and exotic corner of the world – and, more often than not, how Jonny (with considerable assists from Hadji and Bandit) saved or gave him critical assistance. "Jonny Quest" was different because it was obviously a show that was striving for a maturity and realism that had never been seen in television animation before. From the lush and detailed backgrounds to the almost-adult level of violence (all sorts of people and animals die in this show - and when someone died, they stayed dead), there was a lot in this show that wasn't for kids. And now, after years of waiting, Warner Brothers has released all 26 episodes in a massive and elegant 4-disc set, presented in their original broadcast order. From "Mystery of the Lizard Men" to "The Robot Spy" to "The Sea Haunt", they're all here and looking absolutely smashing along with all sorts of DVD goodies like trailers, a featurette on the animators, everything you'd ever want to know about the good and bad guys on the show and even a vintage commercial for sneakers starring Jonny! I fell in love with this show when I was about 8 years old, watching it dubbed in Spanish and in black-and-white, rediscovered it again in color when we came to the States and now, after 30+ years I can say with total assurance that some pleasures from childhood are just as good when you're an adult.
bcolquho That's right. That's what the title says. I had the Jonny Questrecord. What? You ask. I had the Jonny Quest record! Really, I did. It was called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was about Jonny, Race, Dr. Quest, and Bandit, sorry, Hadji, you weren't in it, trying to locate a lost submarine. One line always stuck in my mind: "Yousee, Jonny," Dr. Quest said. "The ocean floor isn't all flat. There arehigh mountains and deep canyons on the bottom of the ocean.Man has explored the heavens and is ready to rocket to Mars. But he still knows nothing about the deep, dark, mysterious world atthe bottom of the sea." Prophetic. Ain't it? Now to the cartoon.Jonny Quest, in the '60s cartoon, anyway, is a prepubescent boy of about 10 or 11. He lives in the Florida Keys with his father, Dr.Benton C. Quest, who was voiced by both Don Messick, SpaceGhost, Shazzan, Dino Boy, and Herculoids, and John Stephenson. Hadji's an Indian orphan. (No, NOT NATIVE AMERICAN!) I'mreferring to the country. He could be a Pakastani. The show's not clear. Anyway, Jonny, Hadji, Race, Dr. Quest, and Bandit, go onseveral adventures. Race Bannon is Jonny's bodyguard. His father does work for a top secret government organization. In the '60sseries, we don't know what happened to Jonny's mother or if Race Bannon had a family. That's not resolved until later. See JonnyQuest and Golden Mask for the resolution of those plot lines. The Quests and Race take on Dr. Zin, mentioned by another reviewer, Hardin, and smugglers disguised as lumberjacks. Later in theseries, they met Hard Rock, who was from an underground city of stone, and he was with them until the end of series. One morething, the '90s series was good, but the original's better.
Brian Washington This is one of my favorite animated series. I loved the fact that this went to exotic locations and all the wild villains they fought. This also was one of the first cartoon series that featured lots of action and even was fairly violent for its time. No wonder this was originally shown in prime time. Too bad the reruns aren't shown on Cartoon Network anymore. This show is truly a classic.
raysond Do I have fond memories of this show! I remember it vividity as a kid growing up watching the repeated episodes during the 1970's and throughout the next decade. This show may have been violent, but it had everything going for it,non-stop action and lots of excitement ,intrigue, international episonage, high adventure, mystery, and breathtaking suspense. For one,you have Jonny Quest, the coolest kid ever and his dad(Dr. Quest) who was always experimenting with new gadgets each week. Then you had his guardian Race who was tough as nails and was always gung-ho for anything to came within the group. Then you had Jonny's best friend and companion,Hadji from India who was a magician or sorts and can always rely on his special magic to save him and Jonny from great danger. Oh yeah, lets not forget Jonny's faithful dog Bandit who sometimes stumbles into trouble. Anyways they travel the world in search for adventure and sometimes meet it face to face.By the way, what's not to love about a show about dinosaurs,WWI airplanes, nuclear submarines, robot spiders, lizard men,sea creatures, invisible monsters, mummies, and secret armies not to mention beings from other lifeforms. Of course, this show had it all as well which included jet packs, lasers, hovercraft, hydrofoils, vstol jets, and other cool gadgets that Dr. Quest had ready to use or still testing them out in his secret lab. Also you have some of the deadliest villains ever devised here like the diabolical Dr. Zin, Ivar, Dr. Karim, Ashida and his man-eating dragons, and a host of foreign spies and deadly international agents out the destroy the world.Where else will you see Race Bannon saving Jonny and Hadji from a certain fate one minute, the next you'll see him wrestling alligators, and afterwards have a romantic moment with the mysterious Jezebel Jade(whom in my opinion looks like an animated version of actress Joan Collins, but with a lot of curves). Still,Dr. Quest and Race Bannon were positive role model for the boys whom most of the time taught them a valuable lesson or two.It is amazing that the series during the 1960's was Hanna-Barbera's first foray into an adventure format and somehow it worked and from its premiere episode it was a runaway hit.NOTE-"The Adventures of Jonny Quest" originally ran for one season producing 26 original episodes in color for prime-time at ABC-TV from the premiere episode on September 18, 1964 until March 26, 1965. ABC reaired all 26 original episodes in prime-time from May 6,1965 until August 31, 1966. After that, the series went to Saturday Mornings where it remained and broadcast on all three major television networks for the next five decades(first at ABC, then over to CBS and its longest-running tenture was at NBC for its Saturday Morning schedule).
