Picnic at Hanging Rock Audience Reviews

CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
shirley-isaacs This was dreadful and couldn't watch after (part of) the first episode. The original film was excellent, and like Mama Mia (here we go again) - the remakes are a complete waste.
wentworthstreet I could never understand why the 1975 film version acquired such critical acclaim. So, I was hoping that the 2018 mini series, currently being shown on BBC2 in the UK, might enlighten me. Oh dear!I have managed to stick with it for three episodes and now I REALLY don't care. The only highlight so far has been the valiant but unsuccessful and unintentionally hilarious attempts made by Aussie actors Harrison Gilbertson (Michael Fitzhubert) and Samara Weaving (Irma Leopold) to wrestle their upper crust English vowels into submission. Natalie Dormer (Miss Appleyard) who gave a cringeworthy, wildly over-acted performance as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors and probably did the same in Game of Thrones (never seen it, never want to) is, yet again, giving us the 'benefit' of the only two acting facial expressions she seems to possess: lop sided purse of the lips or lop sided smirk. However, in interviews she seems to have a very high regard for herself and her acting abilities. Hmmm!I have now had quite enough of this slow-motion, mystical twaddle. It's a great shame they all didn't disappear at Hanging Rock in the first episode. I am being generous in giving a 2-star rating for this howling misfire - but the scenery IS stunning.
natasha_d-47047 I was so looking forward to this adaptation and I tried to sit through it however I could not endure the first episode. The story is dull, the music is awful and the show trying to be modern and cool simply did not work! It's just wrong. Don't waste your time.
nephihaha A lot of misjudged decisions in this version. Even the opening shot seems to be inappropriate here, along with other factors. I always saw Picnic as representing Colonial/Frontier life in contrast to the Bush, and sexuality which is supposed to be repressed/sublimated in the original is far too much on the surface here. There are some serious casting errors in this series, and there are also cack-handed attempts to bring in modern day style and to try and make it cool. This series owes more to Peaker Blinders and the recent TV version of Psycho - Bates Motel.A shame really since a lot of money has been ploughed into this series, but it falls flat on its face in so many areas from writing to acting ro costumes to music.
