Secret City Audience Reviews

BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Console best movie i've ever seen.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
mr-circles I finished season one of Secret City last night and have to say there was NO redemption for their treatment of the trans character, Kim Gordon, whatsoever. In fact, they got one final transphobic jab at her, surprisingly coming from Anna Torv's character, Harriet, who is Kim's ex-wife.Harriet had just slept with her dead ex, Kim's lover and said, "So you do like women."It just seems to be an accurate portrayal of Australia's typical misogyny and vile treatment of trans women. Whether that was their intention or not is another matter. It's disappointing to see an actress, like Anna Torv, who had previously seemed capable of sensitive portrayals, get it so wrong.
andymhancock Stark, no-BS atmosphere. Great acting. And, of course, Anna Torv. The plot kept me wondering. However, the plausibility of the plot also kept me wondering. Lots of cultural stereotypes, perhaps out of keeping with the times. Suspension of belief is needed as to how politicians would react to cyber terrorism, the kind of attributions that would be made without informed discussion, and policy fall-out without challenge (though one fears that this is indeed possible in reality. There is also the one character that seems to be at the centre of everything, by virtue of who knows what. That final ingredient seems to be a common archilles heel for plots of intrigue. Somehow, beyond any plausibility, one character seems to be all things to all people and situations. Sure, it makes for a plot that is difficult to figure out, but it would be better if they found a way to do this with greater plausibility.
Ian Rastall I found the show to be generally intelligent and calm-headed, but in a way you'd never find in the States, it's inclusive, by virtue of having a trans main character, but the sexuality of that character becomes a point of ridicule. You wouldn't find that here. Diversity usually means positive representation. Not inclusion and then subsequent negative representation.I was a big fan of Anna Torv. (It's why I sought the show out.) Now I feel like I need to edit her out of my reality. What a massive disappointment.
marti-98534 I wasn't even sure if I wanted to watch this one, but once I started I had to limit myself to one episode per day. Every one of the episodes were good enough to make a movie out of. The acting was great and all of the characters were believable. I can't wait for the next season
