Info

Spyder Games is a television series that was broadcast on MTV from June 18, 2001 through September 20, 2001. MTV's second foray into the soap opera format following the run of the anthology series Undressed, the series was originally called Spyder Web in development. Originally intended for a 3 pm time slot, Spyder Games ultimately debuted at 7 pm because of its racy content. The final episodes, originally scheduled to air during the week of 10 September 2001, were postponed by a week because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The last episode was written as cliffhanger, but MTV did not pick the series up for a second season.

Spyder Games Audience Reviews

filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Matho The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Jakoba True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Anthony Rupert Who in their right mind would turn to MTV for a soap opera? Spyder Games' sole existence was obviously because MTV had 30 minutes to use up, which could have easily been done by showing some Cribs reruns or, here's a thought.some VIDEOS?It's not that the acting was bad, it's that the characters were uninteresting and the storylines went nowhere. I'm glad this show got laid to rest quick.Anthony Rupert
another dustin So maybe _Spyder Games_ is not the most original show on television. And maybe the actors are a little green. And well, yeah, the story lines are a bit predictable. But so what? _Spyder Games_ is less an original soap and more an homage to the genre. And when it comes to the completely empty calories and mindless entertainment soaps provide, _Spyder Games_ is spot on.The creators of the show are self-proclaimed longtime soap fans, and it clearly shows in their work. SG utilises practically every plot twist and character flaw classique ever used, save the ground-breaking [don't laugh] Ivan-is-gay story line. (Well, Erica's daughter is a lesbian on _All My Children_, so perhaps 'unprecedented' is more appropriate. Gay men are indeed a soap rarity.) And while the plot may seem a bit trite, there's something amusing and comfortable in such blatant cliché.SG really deserves kudos for its campy experience in escapism. If anything, it offers its viewers a half hour out of the day to abandon all faculties of the brain and space out in its mindlessness. Its one stroke of true genius is a cast including _Sunset Beach_ alum Shawn Batten and Christina Chambers, Go-Go's guitarist and green-haired pixie Jane Wiedlin, and the John Waters Baroness Mink Stole. Beyond that, it's just brilliant. And not in the conventional sense, but rather in its reverence to the housewife-stories from which it was born.
coverme6 A late-night soap opera with hi-tech overtones, SPYDER GAMES proves to be a slick entry. The misadventures of the kids of a dead mogul are shown in different emotional categories, whether it be love, jealousy, or greed. MTV created yet another kind of personal roller coaster rides in the lives of young people, much like UNDRESSED. Only this time, the storylines of SPYDER GAMES are a lot more intriguing than mundane sex stories like in UNDRESSED.
moon_song1 This is probably, by far, the worst show ever made. It reminds me of the show "Undressed" aired on the same channel, except it's missing the sex theme. And for anyone who has seen that show, you know what I am talking about. I can't figure out what's worse: the writing, the actors, or the set design. I think it's a toss up between them all. The writing is predictable and horrible at that. This is only reinforced by poor acting by all, except for one or two of the cast members. I knew "Undressed" was bad, but I thought it was on purpose. This show takes itself WAY too seriously for what it truly is. So, I recommend this if you want a good laugh. But, sadly, you just end up laughing AT them...not WITH them.
