TURN: Washington's Spies Audience Reviews

KnotMissPriceless Why so much hype?
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
kieranwilliamsonmt Looking for a new historical series to entertain me that is authentic to the times was quite difficult after watching Black Sails which is a tough one to beat for thrills. However, this show came close to that. Although the first season was good, I just felt it had a bias to it. The British were either idiots or just unreasonably cruel, where as the Patriots were perfect angels, though I did enjoy the plot and the characters, it got me invested enough to watch Season 2. Season 2 was where the show really began to shine. No longer were the Redcoats all evil or just plain idiotic, but instead, some like Major Andre and Major Hewlett were shown to be good people in the wrong line of work. Washington in season 2 onwards, is a flawed character, more man than he was in season 2 and it really creates possibly the best Washington I've ever seen in movies or TV because we learn more about the man.The plots in the show are tense, and if you don't know the history behind certain key characters then it will surprise you. The history and setting is quite authentic and the humour is spot on. I'd highly recommend this show
TheScarceMovieCritic In preceding my review, I offer a statement: I have just finished the entire series and have a complete depiction and opinion of the show. I absolutely loved this TV show! I have followed the series from the very beginning and have been on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time (Hence the 9/10). If my recollection suits me correctly, while watching the second season I felt like the story began to stray from revolution and spy-work in favor for adultery and promiscuity, which left me longing for the former. This was remedied in the third season and completely forgotten about in the fourth, as I was so impressed. Also, I am an avid fan of American history and even though there were a few historical inaccuracies with the show, I still felt like the directors and writers of the show tried to implement a realistic view of what MIGHT have occurred, with a compelling story to entertain. The names and places, as well as some of the spy-work done in the show were historically accurate. But not all. That being said, after finishing the entire series, I have still given the show a rating of 9/10 stars because I genuinely feel that this show (once you get passed the garbage in the second season) has incredible power. This power is accompanied with, and brought on by brilliant acting, writing, and cinematography. Part of the reason why I enjoyed this show was not only the story and how AMC chose to produce that story, but from the continuous development of the characters. Each character proved to be increasingly dynamic with deep passion and realism. By the end of the series, you will be left feeling complete and full (albeit exceptionally entertained).I would highly recommend this series to anyone and everyone!
mawsis I have watched TURN from the beginning and I am sorry to see it end. It is a fabulous show on the history of our nation and the people who gave of themselves to create the USA. I would like to thank AMC for sticking with the wonderful show to the end and Alexander Rose for writing such a tremendous book from where the show is adapted.School children of all ages should watch this series.
Tim I will start with its drawback: It is indeed LOOSELY based on Alexander Rose's history and research, which, by the way, is equally exciting and intense. I always like my entertainment to also be historically accurate. For instance, Abraham Woodhull was not yet married when he initiated the Culper Ring. And Anna Strong was not widowed (she actually died before her husband) nor is there any evidence of an affair between her and Abraham or an affectionate relationship between her and Hewlett. These are just a few examples of where the AMC production errs. I firmly believe, that even in entertainment, it is important to be as factual and historically accurate as possible. To not be accurate borders on, and may at times cross over into, mere propaganda. Too many people get their history via audio-video media nowadays rather than through thoroughly-researched books and articles.So... Why do I give it a "9"? Because it is tremendously entertaining AND it gets much of its history right. When I first started watching the series from its first episode, I had to keep reminding myself that this was on AMC, not the History Channel. When I have had to miss an episode, I couldn't wait to watch it on the AMC website. It has its flaws but it is tremendously suspenseful and entertaining. One more note: Another reviewer somewhere stated that Colonel Simcoe was not as harsh as depicted in the show. There may be a bit of truth to that. After the war, he was made the first Lieutenant-Governor of Canada. There, according to Alexander Rose, he abolished slavery. He also has a lake there named after him. However, during the war, he was quite harsh and ruthless, and his departure was gladly welcomed by the Patriots.I highly recommend this series, as long as you remember that historical accuracy is sometimes sacrificed for the sake of suspense and entertainment.
