Info

An Innuit hunter races his sled home with a fresh-caught halibut. This fish pervades the entire film, in real and imaginary form. Meanwhile, Axel tags fish in New York as a naturalist's gofer. He's happy there, but a messenger arrives to bring him to Arizona for his uncle's wedding. It's a ruse to get Axel into the family business. In Arizona, Axel meets two odd women: vivacious, needy, and plagued by neuroses and familial discord. He gets romantically involved with one, while the other, rich but depressed, plays accordion tunes to a gaggle of pet turtles

Arizona Dream Audience Reviews

Inmechon The movie's only flaw is also a virtue: It's jammed with characters, stories, warmth and laughs.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Verity Robins Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
saraccan I really like the unique chaotic feel kusturica has in his films. the super inappropriately loud music that plays while people are having important conversations are hilarious. amazing acting by amazing actors. it also has that dreamy vibe to it that makes every odd thing feel normal.its about a young new yorker that moves to arizona and falls in love with an older woman.
Matt Greene Arizona Dream's overwhelming artsyness and unique style stands real close to being obnoxious…but my goodness, it's just so darn charming. I can confidently say I've never seen a movie quite like this. Gallo's weirdly hilarious obsession with North by Northwest, the meta-commentary on Depp himself, the questions about where the film's reality actually exists. It's surreal, crazy, and bursting with Lychian-lite life, whose oddities work so well by erring on the side of hilarity instead of pretension.
Irishchatter People say this movie was the best but I think it's pretty messed up. There was too much whining constantly in each characters and like we are seeing A - List celebrities Jerry Lewis, Faye Dunaway and Johnny Depp being involved in this! I think storyline is so badly wrong, there is lot of whinging about being cougars and sugar daddies yet then they are imagining a fish which is meant to be sacred! That's like trying to catch a fish for dinner, never mind worshiping it! I am really disappointed with this movie because I was so looking forward to seeing Jerry Lewis and Johnny Depp teaming up. It just looks like it didn't work out for me that I didn't enjoy it nor liked it regardless if they were there or not!
Chuck Mason I was Best Boy on this show. The most pleasant movie experience I've had. Gunnison, Nome (in Feb!), Douglas AZ, Nogales AZ, and a ranch near the Mexican border. I just saw the Director's Cut last night in L.A. ------ Where is the 1000' mag Steadicam shot?! We built an entire cyclorama stage in the alley behind the auto dealer, painted outerspace, rigged a Caddy on a forklift, lit it big (including the only Titan arcs that Mole Richardson had working at the time), and flew a wall up and down for various parts of the 10:00 shot. It was great. Where is it!? That scene took lots of work, time, thought, rehearsal, and we were all very proud of it. I think we did 3 takes, and at dailies (upstairs in the deserted department store next to the hotel) the whole crew was thrilled. Where is that shot?!?!?!?!!?
