Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister Audience Reviews

Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
hmying I have not seen any other films based on/around Cinderella aside from Disney's. Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister proved to have provided a fresh twist to the common Cinderella story. I liked how the characters are portrayed - ugly Iris so kind, and beautiful Clara so proud.I definitely support this film because it did not stay in the circle where "beauty" equals "kindness, etc" but showed the actual opposite. This will absolutely help younger children understand that "beauty" does not always mean "kindness" as they are so associated with. However, it took me awhile to absorb the fact that Iris, played by the beautiful Azura, was supposed to be ugly.Overall, I stay by the fact that it was a fresh and simple film, it was easy to grasp. Plus, this film may be good for younger children as they should stay away from the ever-so stereotypical Disney movies (not that I don't love them, I do!).Rating: 7/10
x_files_chick I just have to say that the person that commented before obviously had no idea that this movie was based on the book written by Gregory Maguire! I mean...why are they talking about Snow White??? The book and movie do put a different spin on the whole "Cinderella" idea and tell the story from the Stepsister, Iris's point of view. There are no singing mice, or golden pumpkins, but if you loved the book like I did, or are bored of hearing the same Cinderella story over and over, you'll love this movie.
KarieN-2 Much of the darkness has been stripped or made shallow for this movie, but overall, this was a charming version of Maguire's story. The acting was great (Stockard Channing RULES!), the scenery & cinematography was lovely, and the writers tried to stay true to Maguire's examination of the truth behind beauty versus ugliness. (And of course, neither of the stepsisters were *ugly*.)
rshane After reading the Gregory Maguire book, I didn't think that anyone could translate so rich a story and group of characters to the screen - I was wrong! Wonderful adaptation of the story and great casting and sense of authenticity about the period. Brilliantly acted and great passion for the story...
