Dedh Ishqiya Audience Reviews

VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
braddugg Thankfully, the year began on a promising note for the Hindi Film Industry. Thanks to Dedh Ishqiya for that. This is a film that you will like to watch with your boyfriend or girlfriend (whichever is applicable) or spouse. Coz, there are some moments which will linger in head, long after you have seen this film. They may spice up some moments in your romance. This film has subtitles. Thanks to the language used which is more Urdu than Hindi. I believe that since "Umrao Jaan" this is the first good attempt. The film works for the acting. Naseeruddin Shah is effortless. Arshad Warsi is the hyperactive Babban whose wit is hilarious and the spontaneity stupendous. Also they are ably supported by Huma Qureshi and Vijay Raaz and host of others. But above all others I give in to Madhuri Dixit as Begum Para. I love Madhuri Dixit and her dance. Thankfully, she dances and just those 5 minutes of her moves are divine. She has a divine grace in dancing and is surely one of the best dancers for screen. Thanks Madhuri for dancing superbly after a hiatus. The camera work is superb and even the editing is good. At least there is no nonsense. Dialogues by Vishal Bharadwaj and his team are exemplary. In fact the best I have heard in a Bollywood film in long time. Direction till the climax was wonderful and it fell flat in the climax scene. Apart from that, I have no big qualms from this. I am going with 3/5 for a good movie. It may not work for everyone but love and desire have always worked for me.
Tejas Nair So, sequels are supposed to be jinxed. Abhishek Chaubhey is back with his quirky continuation of the tale that reintroduced neo-noir into Bollywood. Dedh Ishqiya borrows heavily from the thriller/heist movies we have seen lately, but it deals with itself differently. Maybe the dialogs are quite subtle & strong at the same time. No prizes for guessing how the actors maneuver the plot into dynamism. Well, the plot revolves around a masquerading crook trying to woe a widowed princess so he can become the Nawaab of that town. The beloved duo of Ifthekar & Babban enter the scene with rather bizarre intentions and somehow get entangled. What follows is something better than majority of the 2013 releases.Huma Qureshi is too sexy for the role, Madhuri Nene is shimmering and steals all the limelight; Shah & Warsi are sweethearts when it comes to character build-up. They truly are the real drivers of the violence- infested story. Lots of poems, sex, betrayals and songs pave the way for a rather appreciable effort. Not that the songs are amazing, but if you have little doubt whether to watch or not, take Vijay Raaz as an alibi; boy, can he act! He is wonderful. Let the long running time and amateur editing not stall you from 2014's first blockbuster. At least, they didn't screw it up. But I do feel they could've related the prequel (more) into the plot. That'd make me more jubilant. Adhai Ishqiya is on the way, though!BOTTOM LINE: Recommended!Profanity/Vulgarity/Mouth-Kiss: Strong | Sex/Drugs: No | Smoking/Alcohol: Mediocre | Violence/Gore: Very Strong
aditya_vashisht A correction in the number - everything about Dedh Ishqiya can be measured as twice the amount presented in the earlier installment. With more fun-gun n' run and exquisite beauty its like one of the most memorable welcome note to a new year. How are we not bound to enjoy when a screenplay is full of conversations that are saturated with Gulzaresque quirks, lyrics and humor? We have grown up in awe of Gulzar's peculiar lyrics. He is the one writer who presents us the essence of a language, be it Urdu, Hindi, awadhi or punjabi. Sharing the same passion for language, Vishal Bhardwaj and his own style of humor and ethnic dialogs make this film an essential one in the history of Indian films. There is so much to this film. Its like a full course meal. And Urdu is one of the main dishes served on the platter of Khalu and Babban's new adventure. Along the course we are also served Thumris, Mushayras and a Qawwali all wrapped in a Nawabi cloak. All of it is so overwhelming that a second helping is a must. Thanks to director Abhishek Chaubey for breaking the status quo and bringing an intelligent script to the screens. Brilliantly written characters and plot progressions are engaging. Madhuri Dixit makes a strong comeback. She carries the same charisma as she did years ago that made everyone crazy about her. I loved how there is a sad undertone to her character when she is introduced but manages to smile and look beautiful nevertheless. The way Madhuri has pulled off the the conflict of her character is commendable. Huma Qureshi also pulled off a confident portrayal. Naseeruddin Shah as the romantically diverted Khalu uplifts the effect of the Urdu poems with finesse. Vijay Raaz as the wannabe Nawab Jaan Mohammad adds peculiarity to his character and becomes part of the most memorable scenes from the film. Watch the scene where everyone is at gun point and waiting for the other one to drop the guns but ultimately end up standing the same way till morning (its the most intelligent piece of humor in films in recent years). Now for the scene stealer. Arshad Warsi's portrayal of feisty and lustful Babban binds the Ishqiya franchise into one. His mannerisms and comic timing adds Babban to the list of most memorable characters. Lajawaab is the word for this flick.
Md Shadab Abedin "Na bolun main to, kaleja phoonke Jo bol dun to zabaan jale hai".....Starting with this shayri..i would like to congratulate the entire team of Dedh Ishqiya in which they presented the classical charm of Old nawabi world, which was somewhere lost in Hindi cinema...One point i would like to mention here..this movie led me to the era of 'Mere Mahboob(1963)'...where chaste Urdu literature were common in Hindi films...It is really much appreciable that when we almost thought that Urdu is not only dying in our culture but also in cinema too...During the meanwhile This film came like a Panacea in order to revive Urdu a- dab(literature). The specialty of this film is that despite being a comedy film...it contains certain elegance unlike the cheap comedy shown in contemporary films.Comedy scenes contains abstract kind of humor which challenges average Indian movie buff's intelligentsia i must reckon that masala film lovers will certainly not enjoy this classic.Sketches of all the characters ware well defined and all the actors fits in their prospective roles....Last word....kudos to makers of Dedh Ishqiya'...wish they could make next sequel ''Dhai Ishqiya....
