After the Indian Government ordered troops into the Soni Darbar in Amritsar, angering Sikhs worldwide, leading to the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during 1984, followed by violence against the Sikhs, and instructions to Police to hunt down and apprehend all suspected terrorists. Karnail Singh was one such suspect, who claims that he has had no hand in any terrorism activity, but is nevertheless pursued by the Police, leaving his widowed mom, Kartar, and sister, Parsan, to fend for themselves by running a Dhaba and being subjected to harassment at the hands of Inspector Ujagar Singh, while the village Mukhiya wants Parsan to get married to a much older Narang Singh. Parsan's problems are resolved when Indian Army Captain Nihal Singh intervenes, and marries her, even though her mom, beaten senseless by the Police, passes away on the day of the marriage. Months later, Nihal must re-locate to Siachen

Mannat Audience Reviews

Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
aaronbir This is brilliant and storyline is brilliant and enjoyable and entertaining and storyline great and storyline good movie movie entertaining Songs they were really impressive and outstanding Storyline is good screenplay is good editing is good direction is good Jimmy shergill is superb kulraj does well in her debut performance Overall 9/10
vjkaram One of the best Punjabi movies I ever saw. Jimmy Shergill did a wonderful role as Captain Nihal Singh. Kulraj who played his wife Prasan Kaur in this movie is such a beautiful girl and she did justice to her role. The movie did a good job exposing the police brutality in the 1980s in Punjab. The villain - Inspector Jhotekutt - was a common thing in Punjab in those days. The movie was full of tragedies but the ending is good. This Punjabi movie was in par with Hindi movies. Hopefully, they make more such movies. The Punjabi spoken in this movie was real and not urban Punjabi or the one spoken in Delhi. It was really village Punjabi. Shergill speaks very cool Punjabi. In short, it was worth watching and it was time well spent.
braich_gal During the year of turmoil in Punjab, an Army officer falls in love with a local village girl. Their Romance leads into a marriage in dramatic circumstances. However due to unfortunate incidents the girl dies after giving birth to a baby girl. Another woman who is desperate to become a mother steals the child. From here the misery of the Army officer starts. Twist in the story send him to a life imprisonment. After completing the sentence his search for his daughter starts again. This story is all about love, passion, hatred, betrayal and romance. Motivated from a true incident, which the director came across in 1996, the film brings out various facets of human behaviour in true punjabi flavour & spirit. This movie is one of the best punjabi movies I have ever seen. It really is worth watching. Both Jimmy and Kulraj did a good job in it and the story line is great!!
MaryamP The story opens up to awful mistreatment of a family in pivotal despair. What was to become of them was unknown. A heart-wrenching throb, the main actor, took it upon himself to fulfill the needs of the family and the story, only to be caught in their midst and have many struggles during his fight of a healthy life for him and his new wife. things began to run quite smoothly and then they went turvy again. Oh what was happening, it made me dizzy! After enduring yet some more trouble, Mr.Shergill was able to live a free life, perhaps with one clear indication as to why he would want to live such a life- his daughter- minnat. After again, some more conflict- a peaceful solution was sought and the relationship was united for the first time, of the father and daughter.Truly a Punjabi film entrenched in sorrow and the overwhelming feeling of happiness in due time. Beautiful roles played by Jimmy Shergill and the main actress.
