BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Micitype Pretty Good
SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Curt Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
Seb In this movie people living on the edge of the mangrove swamp find their food becoming scarce and venture into a dangerous part of the swamp. This sets in motion an entertaining zombie bloodbath with plenty of splatter effects and proper groaning moaning shambling zombies.I have to mention the soundtrack which keeps up a great beat during the action and is nice and eerie when they're in the swamp at night. It definitely adds something to the movie. On the downside there are two old people in this movie who seem to be played by younger people with unconvincing latex masks which is a bit odd. One of them (the old lady) has a very annoying voice and much too much screen time. Other than that I liked the characters, mainly because they do a pretty convincing job of looking terrified. Especially the older fisherman, his sheer terror at being trapped in close quarters with the living dead is totally believable and funny to watch.
Daniel Rodrigues Saying that this movie resembles Braindead, is exaggerating... "Mangue Negro" is a low budget Brazilian movie, with non-professional actors, with some flaws...but it's enjoyable...The zombie characterization is very disgusting, in a good way...the blood scenes are very well planned...and the movie only slows down in the beginning...but after the first zombie appearance the movie continues very well paced...I enjoyed it...and I think many of you will too.But keep in mind, that if you are going to see it because you've read that this is like Braindead you will be disappointed...but if you see it for what it is, a very entertaining zombie flick, you will enjoy it very much...
The_Kidd_II I saw this movie based on the couple of reviews I saw here. All telling there's gore like in Braindead. For you gore hounds out there, just skip this one, as there's like 2 or 3 good scenes AND THATS ALL!Probably the movie makers themselves wrote this, to get more to buy this sorry excuse for a Gorefilm, actually I fast forwarded the last 20 mins of the film because it was so boring. They could easily have cut the film down to 20 mins, cause 1 hour 45 mins is WAYYY too long for this.2 stars out of ten.And thats FINAL!
Claudio Carvalho In a polluted mangrove swamp, the locals recall the time when they could fish and catch mud crabs to sell and feed their families and themselves in their isolated community; now the swamp is dead and they can hardly find a fish or a crab in the dirty water. During a night, dead bodies raise from the swamp, attacking and biting the dwellers that transform into aggressive zombies. The local Luís (Walderrama dos Santos) fights against the monsters to survive and save the life of Raquel (Kika de Oliveira), on whom he has a crush. The Brazilian"Mangue Negro" is a trash movie so gore that recalls Peter Jackson's "Braindead". The story is very simple, but the make-up and effects are surprisingly great and the hero uses a hatchet to get rid of the creatures that threatens his and his beloved lives in a bloodbath in the level of "Braindead". His romantic declaration to Raquel is hilarious. My vote is eight.Title (Brazil): "Mangue Negro" ("Black Mangrove Swamp")
