Cooktopi The acting in this movie is really good.
Red-125 Muhammad: The Messenger of God (2015) is an Iranian film written and directed by Majid Majidi. Cinematography was by Vittorio Storaro. Dryden Theatre of Rochester's George Eastman Museum has been honoring Vittorio Storaro, and that's how we were able to to see this movie. (The DVD was Storaro's own personal copy.) Another reviewer has called this film, "A must-see feast of beautiful colors and tunes." That is absolutely correct. The screen is filled with color and action. The music is beautiful. The acting is outstanding. (We are never shown Muhammad's face, out of respect for Islamic tradition.) We see elephants, camels, horses, and sheep. Director Majidi gives us (literally) a cast of thousands. The desert scenery is spectacular. Everything works, except that the actual facts about Muhammad's childhood are scarce. Director Majidi concentrates on miracles that Muhammad performs as a child. I've read a fair amount about Islam, and I've never seen any emphasis placed on Muhammad having supernatural powers when he was young. Muhammad was an orphan, and his life was challenging. Some of what was shown is probably historically correct, but I think most of it arose in the mind of writer Majidi. One major problem for me is that the film is virulently anti-Semitic. As I understand it, Jews weren't involved in Muhammad's life. He accepted the God of Abraham, and he is considered by Muslims to be that God's true and last prophet. However, any violence he encountered was from opposing tribes, not from Jews. Maybe director Majidi is anti-Semitic. My guess is that this was the price he had to pay for the freedom to make this film in Iran. The movie is three hours long. The good news is that it was never boring. The bad news is that it may have only a tangential bearing on the life of the Prophet Muhammad.
m-akifakkaya It's been 40 years since the epic movie The Message. In this 40 years unfortunately there has not been any proper movie to show the life of Prophet Muhammad. This movie has ended this period, I am thankful to those who were in action for this movie. It's been a great experience to see the moments on screen which we read in the books for years. Especially Prophet Muhammad's relationship with his mothers were put action very well, the scenes were really emotional. It is a hard job to put Muhammad's life on the scene because of the problem of seeing his face and body. This movie solved this problem by showing him only from behind.
aziznitham this movie is the best movie i have ever seen. Muhammad(pbuh) is messenger of god. this movie has good graphics. best story in Hollywood. The film was set to have its premiere at the Fajr International Film Festival on 1 February 2015 but was pulled out due to technical difficulties. For the critics, film-makers and journalists, a special screening was held at Cinema Farhang in Iran on 12 February 2015. The film was released both in Iran and at Montreal World Film Festival on 27 August 2015. The film was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.I thought to myself how can they hold an honoring ceremony for me in a country where my beliefs and sanctity's are insulted... So, in a letter I said I could not attend the ceremony (in a country) where my holiest sanctity's are desecrated. Instead of showing reaction to the insults to Islamic sanctity's, it is better to do some action to introduce the Islamic culture and that is why production of the movie 'Muhammad (PBUH)' was started 7 years ago.
salmapardhan This was a beautifully crafted movie with so many memorable scenes. Also, the story was told from a perspective that has not been heard before. The movie portrayed the story of Mohammed in a humanistic and emotional way that left me with numerous soaked tissues. I would say that this was of the same caliber as Mel Gibson's Passion of Christ. What I truly appreciated was the telling of a story of a boy who had so many commonalities with us humans, and did not bible/Koran bash the viewer. It also focused strongly on the story of Amina, the prophet child's mother. The story was so gripping and the perspective and narrative was so fresh. Kudos to Majid Majidi for taking such a difficult and historically complicated story and packaging it in a way that the general viewer could enjoy. It also did not politicize the story into a religious agenda, which I TRULY APPRECIATED (again, no Koran/bible bashing happening here!)Two criticisms: The movie is heavy on historical content, which isn't always explained well. The story starts in the future with the signing of a treaty, but then moves to the past. That was a bit difficult to follow. However, I appreciate that creating a piece that is true to historical content will run into such issues. Seeing how so much ground was so well covered in this film (where 3 hours just flew by!), I find that this critique is a mild one.The second critique is that the subtitles did not always make sense. On some occasions, I think that the subtitles were literal translations of Persian idioms, which left me scratching my head going *What??*. I think the cons are so heavily outweighed by the pros that I am rating this movie a 10! A must see for historical and religion buffs, and people who want a real nice feel good movie.LOVED IT!
