NWA Starrcade '84: The Million Dollar Challenge Audience Reviews

Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Bergorks If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Kirandeep Yoder The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
callanvass Live from Greensboro, NCAttendance 16,000Your commentators are Gordon Solie & Bob CaudleWorld Jr. Heavyweight TitleMike Davis (C) Vs Denny BrownDavis wins with a bridge pin. Oh, there is confusion. Denny Brown wins the title. The announcers and the ring announcer messed up. Pretty boring and inconsequential stuff. We're off to a flying start. I never got the appeal of Gordon Solie. I always found him kinda bland. *1/4 out of 5Mr. Itio Vs Brian AdidisAdidis wins with an Airplane Spin. Only in the 80's would that pin somebody Lol. Match was a squash3/4* out of 5Florida State ChampionshipJesse Bar (C) Vs Mike Graham Barr wins by cheating. This was a CHORE to watch. An absolute snoozefest of a match. Way too long as well.DUDElimination MatchThe Zambuie Express Vs Assassin #1 & Buzz TylerSigh.... I might be in for a long night. I'm just here for Flair and Rhodes. The Assassin and Tyler win. Best match of the night so far. That ain't saying much.*3/4 out of 5There was a Brass Knuckles Championship Match. I didn't even watch.Tuxedo Street FightJimmy Valiant Vs Paul JonesI see where Vince got the Tuxedo match idea from with The Fink and Harvey Whippleman in 94. Paul Jones wins (despite being a bloody mess) after J.J Dillon screws over Jimmy Valiant. The crowd is very angry. I thought it was trash.DUDMid Atlantic Heavyweight Title"Cowboy" Ron Bass (C) Vs Dick SlaterSlater is the babyface here. Bass wins by DQ. Subpar match to say the least, but the crowd was red hot for it...so what do I know?*1/2 out of 5Ole Anderson & Keith Larson Vs Ivan Koloff & Nikita KoloffThe Koloff's win very anti-climatically. I absolutely love classic wrestling. I've been watching since 1995.. but man these matches are boring. I loved Starrcade 83...so it's not just the event itself. This is a terrible PPV.*1/2 out of 5NWA TV Championship (10 Thousand Dollars)Tully Blanchard (C) Vs Ricky SteamboatBlanchard can't run or get disqualified or he loses the title. Blanchard wins with the use of a foreign object. THIS is what i'm talking about! Great, great stuff from these two. The psychology was excellent. I loved how Steamboat turned the tables on Tully and used his Slingshot Suplex. Tully looked strong as a heel and Steamboat didn't look weak in defeat. Just a fantastic match overall. It may have redeemed this PPV somewhat.**** out of 5United States ChampionshipWahoo McDaniel (C) Vs "Superstar" Billy GrahamBoth guys were past their prime at this juncture. Wahoo is the heel here, Graham the babyface. McDaniel wins with a chop to the throat. That's it? Seriously? That's it? Lame. Although, I understand why. Neither could go that long at this point.* out of 5NWA Heavyweight TitleRic Flair (C) Vs Dusty RhodesFlair retains after Joe Frazier stops the match due to a cut from Dusty Rhodes. That was a TERRIBLE finish. What on earth is that? Talk about screwing PPL out of money. Match was pretty good until that crappy finish.**3/4 out of 5Avoid this PPV at all costs. I don't care what anybody says. Aside from Steamboat and Blanchard, you have no reason what so ever to watch this crud. Seek out Blanchard and Steamboat, skip the rest3/10
