Race Audience Reviews

Raetsonwe Redundant and unnecessary.
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
elshikh4 Yes, the Indian cinema is in a silly stalemate whereas they produce now 1000 movies per year (try to believe it!). And in general they're commercial, largely plagiarist, fares where you'll find at best nothing but hot colors, good action, rampant dances, scent of sexuality and fast songs (mostly copied too!). But sometimes that manages to entertain highly; just like this time.First of all I'm amazed, because it's rare time (let's be honest; it's the only time yet) which I found an Indian remake that surpassed its original. Here (Race), if only you disentangled it from its unnecessary 123 songs and numbers, you'd have a better movie than the American source (Goodbye Lover) 10 years earlier, which was fine movie but not that fine to tell you the truth, in particular when you watch the remake first.(Race) deserves the status it achieved as super hit. However the truly wicked directing wasn't enough to make this movie what it is, because the main power is in the script which proved itself thoroughly this time to a dazzling extent even for the Americans. It was too creative while dealing with the material of (Goodbye Lover) ; doing - in noticeable talent - nothing any easy lazy remake would do, remaking its original in more original way! Starting with the title: (Race) isn't absolutely for granted. It's a complete race over money, sex, and your attention so your amusement as well. Moreover, the job of the 2 brothers in the first movie was at the field of propaganda and burnishing the public figures (namely the art of burying the truths as that movie's winners themselves would do lastly). But here they simply own a stud farm 'Stallions' local biggies at the turf club in Durban; which materialized cleverly the meaning of racing dramatically before visually. It's clear that the 2000s is the golden age of the "twists" on the screen (big or small). Watch (Basic) or "Alias" to catch on that plainly. And how this Indian movie understood that uniquely. It took the twists this time to the next level, making it from a Noir, cornering avidity and the death of love in the world of today, to a colorful comedy - not even that black by the way - about money as the only ruler and the master target, striking so smartly the right note of living mistrust as the ultimate fate.Regard also the coup de maitre of transforming the character of the melancholically cynical deeply materialistic investigator (my personal worst liked Ellen DeGeneres from the American movie) into more liberal, indifferent and appealing (Anil Kapoor) remaking him as vicious "Magnum". Not to mention of course the changing of the idiot partner/policeman into a sexy young girl too; to be both kind of dirty version of The Big Easy's couple!Actually that harmonized with the fact of the whole thing as an exposed varicolored show to ridicule and to entertain, with all mean, vile and excellently swindler characters, using obvious jesting ; the non-stop twists and the lovely musical finale which was close to a theatrical end to expose the game of acting, delivering eventually pure entertainment with never passing satire about the modern-day human and their endless crazy greed. Saving the best for the last, look how the Indian movie makers finish their movie with a car chase (memorably brilliant to say the least). It's a lesson was learned by Hollywood however Bollywood here is relearning its masters indeed. The Alas goes to : The Indians don't give the original makers (of movies AND songs they remake) any due credits. The many many strangely put songs, the hyped dances, and seeing the male leads suddenly shirtless in explicit MTV video clips ! Although (Saif Ali Khan) and (Akshaye Khanna) are supposedly the leads but they both looked clueless, stray and didn't stand comparison with (Anil Kapoor) with the great job he did. And the fact that (Mallika Sherawat) was first offered the role of (Mini) but she didn't do it (Just DAMN !).
yoh-shamanking This movie has twists that may/may not surprise you. But it is an Excellent Movie. It's got Excellent Production Value. Overall, a must see Bollywood flick. Won't reveal the story but it's worth watching at least once!!!What works for Race is that you can never predict exactly whats gonna happen next. Just when you think, this could be the last twist in the tale, it surprises you with another twist. There is almost a twist in every reel!Directors Abbas – Mastan deserve credit for their execution, they succeed in holding your attention throughout the movie. The direction is complimented by the screenplay although the impact would have been much better had the story been more convincing. With so many twists and turns, the viewer after a certain point could get confused as to whose with who. Also it gets a little tedious to sit through. As far as the editing is concerned two songs can be easily chopped off for better impact. The music is brilliant, Pehli Nazar Mein stands out. Dialogues are superb. Cinematography brilliant!
sajal anand with what I have written in the headline...if I say that I have watched the movie twice...will be surprising,no??...OK here is the reason..once I watched just to know the story constantly forwarding and skipping parts...and this is how uninteresting the movie is...I finished it in less than an hour...the second time I sat down with some of my friends, and enjoyed the movie as one of the greatest comedy...such is the stupidity of the so called "twists" that all a sensible person can do is to laugh his heart out.... I would have given an 8 if this movie would have been publicized as a comedy movie...but as it was supposed to be a thriller, and doesn't thrill a bit...it doesn't matter if its predictable or not..u know that every possible permutation and combination has been used and almost everyone helps everyone...and almost everyone cheats everyone...and we have a really horrible movie... *Anil Kapoor can act...I respect him..but in the movie he plays one of the worst roles ever scripted*
HeadleyLamarr I have thankfully dumped the RAM and this film is out of my memory banks. It was truly awful. I will get flak for this, but I think for all its flaws, clichés and silliness, Dhoom 2 was a better film than Race. Even Aish and Bipasha in their tiny clothes cannot compare to what these women were wearing. I'd rather not have plot twists that are stupid and about as twisted as a straw, where the hero is killed off in the first hour and so on and so forth, where cars drive on two wheels as though they are doggies getting ready to do their business at a lamp-post. It is easier to swallow Hritik shooting out of a sewer with his clothes changed and hair style intact! Why? Because I do not expect some masterpiece of acting from that bunch. Then you have Saif and Akshaye and they deliver a Race. I have new found respect for Dhoom 2 ;-) And do not talk about the music - Kiss me kiss me, touch me touch me; move your body like a snake charmer; and other stuff in that vein. To match these atrocious lyrics the women all gyrated as though on a potter's wheel and wore super tiny slutty clothes. Supposedly there were carnal moments in the film - not as far as I could tell. But I saw lots of tacky moments. This has to be the most wannabe film I have seen in a while. Why Saif why? Akshaye - Yeh Tumhe Kya Ho Gaya Hai? As for Anil Kapoor - as they say phirst impreson iz lasht impreson, and phirst impreson waz bad.
