Lumsdal Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) Does this organization even exist? It sounds like everything I wouldn't want my children or myself to learn. In any case, thank you Family Learning Channel for rejecting Mr. Don Hertzfeldt and shaping his way into the wonderful world of animation. This is a collection of very short films, most, or probably all, of them extremely violent and non-sensical packed not only with humans, but also the most oddly-shaped creatures, for example strange cloud figures. Hertzfeldt was in his early 20s when he made this short film and his style of animation is already clearly defined. He was well on his way to turning into the master of dark animation back then already.Nonetheless, I have to say I don't like this short film as much as some of Hertzfeldt's other work to this day. At best, it can be described as pointless fun. I am a bit surprised that his only Oscar nomination so far was for "Rejected". My two preferred choices by him are the earlier "Lily and Jim" and "Wisdom Teeth" which was made 10 years after "Rejected". Nonetheless I'm glad he made his first full feature film recently, even if it's only slightly over an hour, and it seemed to have turned out well. His style always struck me as something difficult for anything over 30 minutes. Keep up the good work, Don.
mOVIemAN56 Don Hertzfeldt has created a cult classic with his 9 minute short animated film, Rejected. Rejected has no plot, it has no characters, all it has is a bunch of drawings rejected by fictional The Family Learning Channel and a fictional company, both who allegedly have hired him to do advertisements for their companies. The first 6 minutes of the film shows us some of Don's work with the absurdity and craziness present in each short commercial. The last three minutes are the amazingly done climax which is really quite a work of art but I won't ruin that part. The reason that the film is so funny to almost anyone who watches it is because of the randomness the cartoon's act in. Saying and doing non-sensible things to each other while they are suppose to be advertising for the fictional Family Learning Channel. Another amazing feat of this film is that it is not animation. It is done by Hertzfeldt entirely who drew hundreds of sketches of the cartoons and flipped them in front of the camera to make them move. I'm not sure of the processes name but that's what he did. It is I don't see a problem with watching this short film. You won't get anything but a laugh out of it but everyone needs a laugh once and awhile and Hertzfeldt will deliver that laugh.4.5/5 Stars
hitchcockfan60 Rejected isn't your average animated short. It can't be compared to Pixar, or even other hand drawn shorts- it has its own tone. I first heard of this short from a friend- who went around saying "My spoon is too big". I didn't really think to watch it until I found it was nominated for an Academy Award. When I did watch it, it was so funny, I couldn't stop laughing! Most of the humor was random, for example, the two guys talking. Their responses had nothing to do with each other! "Tuesday is coming. Did you bring your coat?" "I live in a giant bucket." There was a lot of violent humor, however. My least favorite part was the anus is bleeding part. However, you don't have to look at it as a comedic scene (although the other puffballs' non-awareness was quite comedic), but you could look at it as an early sign of the cartoons' breakdown. The climax of the film- the cartoon apocalypse- was amazing animation. I thought it was probably the coolest part of the film. I definitely think that this film is one of the more memorable short films I've seen, and I certainly recommend watching it. Whether you want random humor, great animation, or something to think about, you have it in this film. Amazingly good and funny!!!
el_monty_BCN I happen to adore the humour of the absurd. I am a fan of absurd comedians such as Monty Python, especially of their wackiest sketches, and since I discovered this wonderful gem of a short film, I can't help but rewatch it every now and then and I laugh out loud every time. I think it's a work of genius. Sometimes I wish it was longer, much longer, but I realize that would inevitably detract from the freshness.I see from the comments that some people don't seem to get this kind of stuff, or worse still, they take it seriously, at face value, and apparently think that these adverts are real and Hertzfeld's mind maybe really was damaged... Well, I think that could be taken as praise for this deranged creation.
