ActuallyGlimmer The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
trashgang Made way after the torture porn hype to be honest this German flick that has the problem most of German flicks has. Almost all over the world no-one understands German so when do you German producers or directors understand that you need to include English subs. I attend German conventions to discover new flicks and come across famous US thespians who are sitting there. My problem is always that most flicks do come out in German. But enough about that. I saw trailers about this flick and the only reason I wanted to see this was the fact that the effects looked great.Divide this flick in two parts, the first part, the first 40 minutes it's all about blah blah. Once after 40 minutes the horror comes in. It's torture porn indeed and I must say that the effects were well done. The tongue full of nails and the sewing of two hands together looked stunning. On part of the acting it's a bit mediocre. The blond one goes a bit over the top and the guy walking around in latex doesn't add a thing on walking around like that. There's no moment that it all looked scary like flicks concerning house invasion. So you guess it's all boring. Without the subs a lot of geeks will turn it off especially that the first part doesn't offer a thing. But I must say, it didn't had a cheap overlook on use of the camera. Does it deliver the gorehounds, not one bit. Will it stick in your mind forever like the Saw franchise. Guess not only the pierced tongue maybe. I also have one question. The gun scene I didn't get. The gun goes off off-camera but brains are smashed against the wall, but i didn't here any shot. Anyone?Gore 1,5/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2,5/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5
BA_Harrison Although I found Candy House (German title: Schlaraffenhaus) somewhat slow and uneventful at times (the first half-an-hour/forty-five minutes, in particular, is surprisingly devoid of action), it wouldn't be fair of me to rate the film until I learn to speak a tad more German (my current vocabulary consisting of 'ja', 'nein', 'bitter', 'guten tag' and a few assorted phrases gleaned from war films). Since I have the feeling that one's full appreciation relies on an understanding of the dialogue, I'll focus this comment on the element which I was able to enjoy regardless of my limited linguistic capabilities: the brutality...For the most part, the violence in Schlaraffenhaus (2011) is very mean-spirited and competently handled given the film's low-budget nature, and once it kicks in, remains fairly consistent throughout. The nastiness comprises of a series of tortures perpetrated on the several captives of crazy blonde bitch Simona (Selin Deveci) and her PVC-raincoat-wearing goon: an impressively realistic scene sees lead girl Maria (lovely brunette Annika Strauß) having her hands sewn to those of her friend Kira (Alex Anasuya), the camera capturing every insertion of needle and pull of thread in sickening detail; a rather less convincing moment involves Maria being forced to eat a nail-filled muffin resulting in a less than attractive tongue-piercing; and there's also a nasty eye puncture, some finger-nail removal, an arrow shoved up a guy's nose into his brain (which is wiggled around a bit for good measure), and a messy disembowelment, Simona having a good fondle of the victim's entrails. The violence also includes the vicious rape of Maria by Simona's accomplice (who cuts her back with a knife as he has his wicked way), and a shotgun blast to the head (although a frustrating cut-way shot means a missed opportunity to get extremely splattery!).Just for the record, as far as I could fathom, the film's plot revolves around a will and the inheritance of 18m €, which is reason enough for some people to go kill crazy, but until I can find a sub-titled copy of the film, the details will remain a mystery to me.
