The straight-to-video feature That Darn Punk was produced by a new film division of the Kung Fu record label, and its soundtrack features a number of punk-pop bands, some of whom are, naturally, signed to the label. Several songs were recorded especially for the film by bands like Nerf Herder, No Motiv, and the Vandals, while much of the material recorded by the label's own roster is exclusive to the soundtrack or at least previously unissued. Plus, there are a few cuts licensed from bands like Pennywise, Rancid, and Lagwagon.

That Darn Punk Audience Reviews

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
dgxb This movie is freakin terrible. And when I see terrible, i mean the worst thing I have ever seen. I'm a huge Vandals fan and a big punk rock fan, but this movie is crap. I had seen the Vandals a few times before I picked up this movie and Warren was hilarious, not here. I was so mad when I watched this after I picked it up. All i heard was how awesome it is and how well it was shot. WRONG. Escalante is the worst actor I have ever seen. If you want to be entertained by the Vandals go to one of their shows, they're way more exciting and actually funny. Their freakin Christmas DVD was better than this pile of junk. I'm sure their next "movie" isn't going to be much better.
Linda Whalen (windatheicequeen) This movie had it all. I enjoyed it for it's artistic quality. The music was great and made me move my feet. It is recommended by me to viewers that love music with an interesting plot. I like the music and how it fits in with the action sequences. The actors were very good in their roles. Each took to the plot their interesting personalities. The talent made it better through their outstanding acting ability. It wasn't a pretentious or over the top production. I really got to care about the people they each portrayed. Lots of plot twists plus I never would've guessed the ending in a million years. Worth watching for movie and music fans alike.
blackxmas Hoo boy. Here's a film with a built in fan base that's going to love it no matter what. I could think of a lot things to say but it'd be a waste of my time. The acting stinks, the writing worse, and I can't remember the last time I was bored by a movie because of it's uninspired camera work. The back of the box makes the claim that 'THAT DARN PUNK is the first film of it's kind to actually entertain audiences worldwide while completely ignoring the Hollywood machine'. What KIND of film are they talking about? What KIND of vague statement is that? THAT DARN PUNK is all that's bad with independent cinema and that SELWYN'S NUTS trailer at the beginning (has to be the worst trailer ever assembled from a technical standpoint)looks even worse. I guess this is what happens when self-styled punk rockers make a punk rock movie. Punk rock movie. Who are they fooling?
sheakat If you're into punk music and independent, low-budget films with originality, the movie 'That Darn Punk' has all the elements. As odd and quirky as some of the characters are, there are really people like them walking around who have not yet been committed to the local asylum. I've met them. Some of the acting could be better, but the main character, played by Joe Escalante of The Vandals, is very believable. The movie has a message and some good twists. It's entertaining with a great soundtrack and destined to be a cult classic.
