The Earthling Audience Reviews

GazerRise Fantastic!
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Isbel A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Chris Chasteen I remember, as very young boy, watching this movie at one of our babysitters' houses and it scaring the hell out of me. R.S. portrayed the lost in the wild moment awesomely and I could very easily place myself in that role mentally. For years every time I heard a radio station not quite coming in, I would get the creeps. A couple years I decided to try to find it on internet and recently found I can watch the whole on YouTube. I am doing so now. Very cool movie, still kinda gives me the creeps, even though I am now older then R.S. parents are in the movieIt is also sparking the thought in me that I should start looking for other films from my earlier childhood that I can recall. Or TV shows.
JamesLosAngeles **SPOILER** I was about 11 years old when i saw this film. I remember being so frightened and even emotionally shook up when the parents go off the cliff. It was an image I couldn't get out of my head for years as a child. As a kid you see this movie through the child's perspective, now as an adult I found my emotion coming from the old man's character (Holden). I think there's so much to draw off of this film for a young child or an adult who has struggled finding his or her way through life. Ricky Shroder is beyond phenomenal in this - and as great as he was in The Champ this in my opinion is his best role ever. The Australian Outback is breathtaking and its great how they captured all the animals and wildlife throughout the film. It's too bad this film somehow managed to fall through the cracks and didn't have a broader appeal - its really a lost treasure.
mrafael The production is poor, but the performances of the actors are excellent. You can feel the drama in each sense. A newer version or DVD will be appreciated. For Spanish talking people there are no subtitles or anything like that. Also the quality of the audio is poor. I am giving the best score, because is a clean movie for all the family, to teach them that you can succeed in the worst conditions. The film shows a boy (Rick), that is over protected by the parents. They died, so he is alone. Holden sees all the tragedy, but he has a few time (who has enough?)to show him how to survive, live and be good. You must see the film, it has a life lesson, not only for parents.
leebertarian@yahoo.com A dying man finds love and compassion in his final days as he treks to his birth place accompanied by a spoiled whining child orphaned in a freak accident in the outback. The cinematogrpahy was 1st rate, the plot understated. While vacationing in the Australian Outback with his parents, American youngster Shawn Daley suffers from the loss of his parents in a freak accident, finding himself orphaned and marooned in the Australian outback. Shawn eludes a variety of insect and reptilian life before he meets Patrick Foley, a grumpy adventurer who is headed back to his parent's resting place deep in the woods. Foley grudgingly lets the boy follow along and teaches him how to live off the land. When Foley's condition worsens, Shawn discovers he has to leave Foley behind and start his journey back to civilization with his newfound skills that'll allow him to survive the return trek alone. Filmed between September and October 1979 on location in Blue Mountains and Barrington Forest, New South Wales, Australia.
