The Hard Corps Audience Reviews

Spoonatects Am i the only one who thinks........Average?
Freaktana A Major Disappointment
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Theo Robertson I wouldn't say I had high expectations for this film since it's a straight to DVD release starring you know who . The director is however Sheldon Leith who did make LEGIONAIRRE which is the by far the best of Jean Claude Van Damme's action adventure movies . After seeing it I possibly expected too much and if you're someone who watches JCVD to see himkick butt you'll be disappointed too This treads the path that sees a Jean Claude Van Damme film have its star become more and more sidelined . DRAGON EYES from 2012 barely featured Van Damme and was more concerned with a pumping soundtrack and some bad ass homies . This movie is a precursor to that sort of movie . The longer the film continues the more and more sidelined Van Damme's character Phillipe Sauvage becomes . It's also very noticeable the longer the film continues the more interested it becomes in the hip hop soundtrack , bad ass gangstas dissing each other with right on street lingo so much so that Savuage is redundant at the end , so much so you're left feeling cynical that JCVD was cast because he is a known name That said THE HARD CORPS does contain a scene that caused me to laugh out loud . The scene is set in a hospital where a woman is interviewing a woman injured in a violent attack " Can you tell me who did this ? " " Mmmmm " " I,m sorry I didn't catch that " [ Mumbling louder ] " " MMMMMMMMMM " Like I said it made me laugh but you can't help thinking it was made as a dramatic scene rather than a comical one
Frank Markland Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a special forces guy (you know the type) who is hired as a bodyguard for a world champion boxer, seems that a gangster has put a hit on said boxer, and despite Van Damme's reluctance, Vivica A. Fox convinces him to take on the case. The film I was most reminded of was Blackjack with Dolph Lundgren (Minus the color phobia angle.) and this is because the film features a similar plot line. Jean-Claude Van Damme is in decent form, he excludes a charisma and is in his strong action man role, which has been lacking lately in his later straight to video movies. Alas despite Van Damme's effective work the movie still doesn't work due to the over-edited action sequences and lame camera angles that cut away far too much so we can't get into the action as well. The choreography is certainly decent but the action is too chopped up to be effective. Also Van Damme has a group of other tough guys and gals helping out,so we see more action with them then with Van Damme, which is sort of a letdown. The movie is passable, I mean I wasn't bored with it and despite its routine story and predictability the movie does deliver what it promises. I just wish the movie would've given us more Van Damage and less camera trickery. In the end though it's not one of Van Damme's best. It is in fact a lesser film from Jean-Claude.* * out of 4-(Fair)
cybersupam This is one of Van Damme's most different movies up to date. Why? Because for those who are his crazy fans for "action and adventure" types, it does not fulfill their expectancies. Since my childhood I have been growing up watching his tough and unique action flicks. But still then I will rate this movie above average. Yes, before buying the CD I highly expected of getting entertained. But it did not score as expected. Here Van Damme plays Phillip Sauvage, an American soldier who suffers from stress disorder caused after his operation against Iraq and Afghanistan. But its shown only in the starting time, and later on sometime as sparking off his memory. His role later on turns out as a bodyguard for boxing champion Barclay, whom he even competes in boxing.Anyway The Hard Corps may not be a typical Van Damme movie, but here he proved that the word 'action' can be converted to 'acting skill' by his cool natural and real-like performances. By this he moves one step higher to his acting career. The movie has its maturity, standard and quality. But very disappointing issue is that, the whole focus in the movie mainly goes to Razaaq Adoti (as Wayne Barclay) rather than Van Damme. And this is the minus point of the movie, as it disappoints huge Van Damme fans.Boxing is a common element almost in every Van Damme's flicks and the same is involved here too. He is an ex-American soldier but dares to compete with a world heavyweight boxing champion, Barclay. This is Sheldon Lettich's fifth directorial venture with Van Damme which is another source of attraction. Its so because after watching his previous four hits everyone would certainly pick up the fifth one. And I did it too in my case. Ultimately, its a slow and decelerating movie but still neither a bad nor worthless to watch.
mas_leo333 This film just lets itself down towards the end. From the start I thought maybe this one was going to be different and not the same as Vann Damme has been doing for the last 5 years, which has been in most cases disappointing. But these films seem not have the stamina to finish the race, and the plot seems a little hard to swallow. But I do like Vann Damme's idea of moving away from the action, more for the acting but he needs to find the right material or its just a waste of time. In closing quite a lot of things were bad from the make-up to the acting. Vivica A. Fox who did your make-up girl, they need shooting. Your not missing anything new by missing this one.
