Based on a true story, American Marine Jason Johnson (Goselaar) is sent on assignment to the Emirate of Bahrain. While there, he meets and falls in love with a spirited, lovely young woman, Meriam (Nichols), without realizing she is really a member of the Bahraini Royal Family. Meriam, who does not wish to consent to an arranged marriage, knows her love affair with Jason is dangerous, as he is a Mormon Christian and she a Muslim. Her parents would never consent to their match, and so Meriam and Jason race against time to escape Bahrain and make it to the United States, where they can marry. If Meriam is sent back, however, her life may be in jeopardy.

The Princess & the Marine Audience Reviews

AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
4leener Would love to own this movie. Tried to find it on Bockbuster.com and it wasn't there. I will never forget that movie as long as I live. Romantic, action, intense, raw...The characters in this movie were very believable. I was sucked right in from the start and since it played over a few days, I couldn't wait for the next "episode". Gripping movie. With all the movies and shows out there with smut, swearing, and just plain garbage, this offered real substance. This was refreshing. It's too bad that Hollywood hasn't figured out what people really want to see. A gripping tale of an Arabian princess and a marine who fall in love and are forbidden to be together, only to find a way to do just that. Come on Hollywood! Give us more like this!
kurt_messick This is a gentle film; as most know, it is based on a real-life story between a Marine stationed in the Middle East and a Muslim princess. It is currently showing occasionally on the Lifetime network. The couple divorced last year. However, it is a good love story, basic acting and situations appropriate to made-for-television films - this would never stand up to cinematic release, and the tension is rather muted (probably more realistic, but less dramatic). The actors are well-suited for their roles - Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Jason Johnson begins to shed the 'Saved by the Bell' image, and Marisol Nichols as Meriam Al-Khalifa does a serviceable job as the girl torn between two worlds. Worth watching, particularly for those who like a love story, but even that is a bit muted here, particularly in light of the real life events later. However, the love was obviously real at the time, and one hopes something that neither person would have traded, even knowing the eventual outcome.
matory This is one of those love stories that is so fantastic, that you really can't believe it's true -- but you're happy that it is. US Marine Jason Johnson falls for a beautiful Muslim princess, and they risk their honor, careers, and even their lives to be together. And the best part? Meriam's final hearing passed, and she's here to stay. The real Jason and Meriam are still together, still married, and (I hope!) still in love.
WAHDANI1 The scene of passing camel and goats roaming in front of the marine HQ was the most laughing part in the movie. The area happened to be one of the most recent developed areas on the Island. So it was very funny and unnecessary at the same time. It is Hollywood stuff and adding spices to already poor-tasted recipe might make some difference!!Since it is a true story, the least the marine could have done to convince the girl and the audience world-wide (besides accepting demotion at work and standing to the Immigration harassment on arrival at Chicago Airport) was to convert to Islam so the marriage could gain acceptance. Caused this is mandatory for a Muslim girl to do, as a Muslim woman is not allowed to marry non-muslim. There are thousands of all sorts of males nationalities ( be it Americans , Europeans etc..) who fell in love with Muslim girls - but have to convert to Islam to get married. The movie is a fairy-tale like that it could have been extracted from the folklore "The Thousand-night-&-night" book. Mind you Bahrain is an Arab Country and used to be named the "Land of Eternity". All are welcome.
