Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Starring Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais.

The Raid Audience Reviews

Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Onlinewsma Absolutely Brilliant!
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
nims-1975 I have loads of Martial Films by Martial Art Film Actors such as Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Tony Jaa, John Liu, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Johnny Nguyen, Sasha Mitchell, Steven Seagal, Steve Austin etc and all of their films are absolutely brilliant. I don't like to rate them differently in scores and I think they all deserve 10/10. The Raid starring Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian is an absolutely brilliant Martial Arts Thriller with lots of tense, brutal and powerful Martial Arts fights and the acting by Iko Uwais as Rama and Yayan Ruhian as Mad Dog is brilliant. These two actors are two very strong men and show their power in the film against each other and against others in the film. I have The Raid and The Raid 2 on DVD and I just loved watching The Raid because even though it was pretty violent, it also was a very enjoyable film to watch.
elmoslively The RAID 2 and this film are essentially companion pieces.
The Movie Diorama I know this was released first but I couldn't get it out of my head! We follow a SWAT team who raid an apartment block in order to capture Pa-Pa, but the Pa-Pa clan aren't going to make it easy...(ok fine, no more Dredd references). One minute in and our main character is punching, elbowing and kicking a sand bag at 100mph. Bam! I was ready to sit back and watch a heck load of hand combat unfold. 40 minutes later, still no hand combat scenes...I was growing agitated. Thankfully though, the film turned around and our main character was battling his way through using only his body and knives. I'm talking full annihilation. Complete decimation. The residents did not stand a chance! Wham! Bam! Kapow! Swish! Slice! Followed by continuous noises as our characters fights to death. "Ah! Ehh! Phwoarrr! Hai! Ohhh!"...you get the gist. The action is pretty relentless, well executed and rapid. The choreography is insane. INSANE! There is one scene where two good guys are against one bad guy (apologies for the bland description) that goes on for six minutes. I have never seen so much flipping, kicks to the head, jump punches and head smashes to the floor...in my life. The bad guy in that scene is like the Indonesian Terminator, he just wouldn't die. The directing was good overall, not many quick cuts although the camera was particularly shaky during the first half. My problems with the film are with the plot conveniences and predictability. I don't really want to dive into it for spoiler reasons but if our main character is in a tricky situation, something would always happen to get him out. Any "twists" that were executed, were predictable and poorly constructed. Also some fight scenes in rooms have all the furniture right next to the walls, therefore leaving a massive open space for the fight. I would like to have seen them use the furniture to their advantage. Plus, I literally just watched it and don't know the main character's name. At all. Greatest action movie ever? No, but it's good!
reidsmailbox I am usually not into action films unless they are really good. This one is totally unique and is now one my #1 action favorite. This movie is like nothing made before. And is so awesome. Go see it.
