Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
ali-brown I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it has made me want to learn to Salsa dance in the hope that my teacher is as lovely looking and fit as Nicholas (Kamar De Los Reyes). I would really love to own this film on DVD or Video so if anyone knows of a way I can get hold of a copy please let me know. Has Kamar De Los Reyes been in any other films - if so I would be keen to find out which ones. The whole film left me with that real feel good feeling and that happy endings do happen. If you haven't seen this film and you love dancing and romance then it is definitely worth watching. Well done!! If Kamar De Los Reyes would like to teach me to salsa dance then I am a very willing student.
oodlsofnoodles annabeth gish is my favorite actress. she, once again, had an outstanding performance!!! she is so sincere in her work, it is impossible not to feel a part of it! there's an amazing passion that screams out from her eyes and you can see she's REAL!!! there are a lot of fake celebrities out there and she is the most legit there is!!! SHE made the movie as best as it could be,,,the material was really weak and and the plot wasn't the best around, but i'd still buy the movie because she did an amazing job!!!
escaped For anyone who likes dance movies such as DIRTY DANCING, STRICTLY BALLROOM, and SAVE THE LAST DANCE this one is a worthy addition to that genre. Like those films, this one shares the standard plot of romantic leads from different backgrounds overcoming obstacles with comic relief from their sidekicks and lots of enjoyable music and dancing. Once again we have the awkward heroine who faces antagonism but blossoms while taking dance lessons from a hunky homeboy. Kamar De Los Reyes and Annabeth Gish were very appealing as sensitive soulmates. I have two complaints though- it was unbelievable to me that she would even consider marrying the numbskull fiance after connecting with Nick and it didn't make sense that her friends and mother would object to Nick simply because he was Hispanic- when he was a cultured college educated school teacher and even Catholic like she was. Movie writers seem to keep wanting to perpetuate cultural biases by presenting conflicts intended to show that there is something shocking about people of different ethnic backgrounds having relationships when in the real world it has become quite commonplace and accepted-at least in MY world.
fgunther Annabeth Gish has always been one of my favorite actresses, and she does a very good job in this movie, especially the dance sequences. Kamar de los Reyes is excellent. Too bad these two fine actors weren't given better material. The plot is very much "Dirty Dancing", with novice dance student falling for charismatic Latin dance instructor, and a whole lot of very sensuous dancing going on. Potential spoiler: the ending is cribbed right out of "Dirty Dancing", except it's even cornier.I enjoyed the movie's visuals, and tried to tune out the schmaltzier parts of the storyline. BTW, the two women who play Annabeth's coworkers are excellent; unfortunately, in the TV version I saw, they scrunched the credits to the side to make room for a promo, and I couldn't get their names. If you like fantasy love stories (I do), and can suspend your brain for a while, you'll enjoy this movie. I gave it a 7, largely because of some very fine acting, and wonderful dance scenes.
