WWE Royal Rumble 1998 Audience Reviews

Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Terryfan 1998 is one of the best years in all of Pro Wrestling and in the World Wrestling Federation it was a excellent year all together. Now this being the first Pay Per View of the WWF it could have done more but still the two final matches of the night were worth the wait. This Royal Rumble feature a lot of memories such as the rise of a future hall of famer and the shocking betrayal Match 1: The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust vs Vader. Now this was the opening match and it wasn't something you should call home about but when you see Vader hit the Vader bomb with Luna on his back that's worth a watch.Rating: 6 out of 10Match 2: Max Mini, Mosaic, Nova vs Battalion, El Torito and Tarantula with Sunny as special guest referee. Now to be honest the only reason to watch this match was to see Sunny in her referee out fit because these guys were not sign with the WWF and not to judge them but this match was just for show and didn't anything for me my only guess is they wanted to give a excuse to have Sunny out as Referee Rating: 4 out of 10 Match 3: Ken Shamrock vs The Rock for the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Now these two were long time rivals and they normally had some good matches together and this one was no different plus you have to see the surprise double cross in this match as they work a good match.Rating: 7 out of 10Match 4: The Legion Of Doom (Hawk and Animal) Vs The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) for the WWF Tag Team Championship I had hope for a match with two of the best tag teams in wrestling history however this match wasn't what I had open for because it was too short and didn't have much time to work out as they also handcuff Hawk to the ropes so it pretty much was a let downRating: 6 out of 10Match 5: The 1998 Royal Rumble. Now this is one of the best royal rumble matches in history for a lot of reasons one being that Mick Foley came out as Cactus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love in this match alone but at different times of course during the match. The match feature The Rock, Owen Hart, Ken Shamrock, Ahmed Johnson, Vader, The Headbangers, DOA, D'Lo Brown, Stone Cold Steve Austin and more. When it was time for Stone Cold to come to the ring who was marked from the start having attack all the guys to be in the Royal Rumble he came through the crowd after every one stop fighting to wait for him to come to the ring and when Austin enters the ring it was game on and Stone Cold Steve Austin was driven as you will see in this match and when the final four takes place you will be in for a treatRating: 9 out of 10Match 6: Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker Casket Match for the World Wrestling Federation Championship. Now this feud has been going on since the 1997 Summerslam as Shawn cost the Undertaker the championship so this would be the match that would be following up their Hell in a cell match. Both men pull of some good spots and high spots for this match as you see some heavy hitting moves as they were giving their all for this match and sadly this was the match that sideline Shawn but overall they worked a good main event and when you see the climax of this match you'll be in awe.Rating: 9 out of 10Overall this Rumble feature the rise of legends and showcase some good main events it just some of the show could have been better but this is the Attitude Era where it was at the highest time to be a fan of wrestlingI give the 1998 WWF Royal Rumble an 8 out of 10
amanwhorocks 1. Artist formerly known as Goldust Vs. Vader - Vader nicely defeated that freak with Luna on his back, which want to help her pet. 7.5/102.Battallion/Tarantula/ El Torito Vs. Max mini/Nova/Mosaic - Midget wrestling was never my cup of tea, reminds me children. Crowd was DEFINITELY dead. And me either. (About 17 arm drags) Didn't matter who win that. 5/10 3. WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Champ-The Rock Vs. Ken Shamrock -Screwed ending. Victory was ASSIGNED to Rock 7.5/10 4. WWF Tag Team Title Match: Champs-New Age Outlaws Vs. Legion of Doom - DQ ending in an usual match 6/10 5. Royal Rumble Match: Middle part was quite boring, but nice choice for winner, and the final stunner was cool. Rock nice sold it. 8/10 6. WWF World Heavyweight Title Casket Match: Shawn Michaels Vs. The Undertaker - Kane one more time helped Shawn beat The Undertaker. 7/10
bh_tafe3 1998 was a new year in the WWE and they wasted no time setting their agenda for th next twelve months with Vince McMahon announcing that Stone Cold Steve Austin, ruffian that he was, would not make a responsible champion for the WWE and that he would be a marked man in the Royal Rumble match. In other matters Ken Shamrock, after getting screwed out of the WWE Championship at In Your House: D-Generation X was now setting his sights on The Rock's Intercontinental belt, while the WWE Champion Shawn Michaels was going to have his own problems taking on the Undertaker in a casket match. The night started off though with a throwaway opener which saw Vader defeat Goldust despite the interference of Luna Vachon. Vader delivered the Vader bomb on Goldust, prompting Luna to jump on his back. Vader simply threw her off and pinned Goldust.Next match saw much hollering at the start as Sunny came to the ring in a referee's shirt to officiate the six man midget tag match won by the team of Max Mini, Nova and Mosaic over Battalion, Tarantula and El Torito. Like most midget matches this one was quick and repetitive, so it loses more appeal as it goes along. Average overall. The next match saw Ken Shamrock defeat the Rock after the Rock had knocked him out with some brass knucks. Unfortunately for Shamrock the Rock had hidden the knucks in his trunks. The referee found the knucks and disqualified Shamrock meaning the Rock got the win and kept the intercontinental Championship. This was a fun little match. Shamrock was not a terrible wrestler, but never quite seemed to fully adjust from MMA.Next up came a pretty bad tag match with WWE Tag team CHampions The New Age Outlaws (The bad Ass Billy Gunn and the Road Dogg Jesse James) putting their belts on the line against the Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) Hawk was handcuffed to the outside of the ring by the Outlaws., but the Animal was able to powerbomb Gunn and looked likely to get the win before his pin attempt was broken up by a chair shot from Road Dogg. The Outlaws retained their titles but didn't have much to be proud of. Even though this was bad match, it did a nice job of telling a story and got you to actually want to see someone beat the Outlaws for those damned belts.Next came the Royal Rumble match. The Rock came in at 4 and lasted the longest. Along with his faction the Nation of Domination led by Farooq, Rock dominated the Rumble until Steve Austin came to the ring as entrant 24. Still though the final four saw Nation team mates Farooq and the Rock remaining with Steve Austin and Dude Love. Dude Love was actually the third character Foley had appeared as in this Rumble match. He had started the rumble against Chainsaw Charlie as Cactus Jack before being eliminated and returning as Mankind, which again saw him eliminated. Dude Love quickly made his exit then it was Farooq and the Rock pounding on Austin, until that is The Rock turned on Farooq and eliminated his leader. Austin then took control, hitting the stone cold stunner and throwing the Rock over the top rope to win the match and a title shot at Wrestlemania. His final tally was 7 eliminations. His victory sparked the first of many occasions that JR screamed out "Stone Cold!!! Stone Cold!!!" on commentary. Watching on approvingly from a corporate box was former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, apparently a Stone Cold fan. This brings us to the main event, a casket match for the WWE Championship with Shawn Michaels defeating the Undertaker following interference first from hi D-Geberation X cronies and then from his brother Kane. Kane was not stopping there though. He locked Undertaker into the casket and then wheeled it up the ramp, poured some gasoline on top and set it on fire. The Tomb was then opened revealing only ashes on the bottom. Undertaker's voice came over the titantron and said he would never "rest in peace." This had been a good match, but had lasting repercussions. In what looked like an innocuous incident, Michaels had hit the middle of his back on top of the coffin after being thrown over the top rope. The blow actually was a serious one and just months later forced his retirement from professional wrestling. So there you go. 1998 Royal Rumble, like many PPvs of the next two years did nothing special in the ring, but the show told a story, the two big matches were good enough and it is well worth a look more than a decade later.
Andrew Benjamin This is a great video. I mean you have many great matches including the royal rumble itself. There is also a midget match with the legendary Max Mini. This is a must see for any wrestling fan preferably WWF.
