Blood and Honor: Youth Under Hitler, 1982 is a German/American made for TV mini-series which was a co-production between Daniel Wilson Productions and S.W.F and Taurus Films. The original screenplay was by Helmut Kissel and was partly based on his own experience as a member of the Hitler Youth. The scripts that were eventually shot, however, were written by Robert Muller. Helmut Kissel led as the director of the project but was replaced by Bernd Fischerauer within the first couple of weeks when shooting started. The shooting was on location in Baden-Baden, West Germany with the first 4 weeks in August 1980 and the rest of the production was completed between January through March in 1981. Each scene was shot both in English and in German and resulted in two versions of the film. The post production of the German version was completed in spring of 1982. It premiered on West German TV in July 1982 and the American version premiered in November 1982.

Blood and Honor: Youth Under Hitler Audience Reviews

ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Jacomedi A Surprisingly Unforgettable Movie!
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
phil allen Terrific TV series, and a distinguished part of the canon of film about European youth during the War. Attend to the numerous views of 'youth being young', whether scoring love or approval--even in '30s Germany. The scene of 'high-school graduation' couples jumping hand-in-hand through a bonfire is a heart stopper,..as though it had happened 10,000 years ago.
camilo-padilla I was able to watch this movie long time ago, is an old movie of an ancient subject, that has been so many times touch from different points of view. The perspective shown on this movie portraits the life of young Germans, children's that lived in a difficult time for his country which was trying to rise as a power after a sad time of defeat, division, economy downfall, etc. Building up the German Reich required a new thinking where Honor, Glory, Fatherland love were a must in this sense these children's where recruited to join Hitler's youth which brought along a conflict where they had to choose sometimes between their commitment to the country and their commitment to their own families. It is an outstanding movie placed in an historical moment of one of the worlds biggest country, anyone who is interested in third Reich or world war II movies from the drama point of view is entitled to watch this movie. I would personally love to see it again but I have not been able to find it, so if anyone of you knows where it can be bought either in DVD or VHS I would much appreciate you to contact me. Enjoy it.
eaeaton This was a very well done movie about the Hitler youth and how it tore apart families by making the youth spy on the questionable loyalties of their parents. It was very moving and you felt the fathers pain as he was divided about his love for his son and his hatred for the Nazis.
jgfox I saw this when it first aired (English version) and was mesmerized by its portrayal of the rise of the Nazi party. Party propaganda reached all phases of family life. It was persistent, methodical, and effective. Wonderfully directed and acted. I think it is a classic in its portrayal of family life and the slow corrosive effect of propaganda. After watching it, I had a better understanding of how a targeted society can be perverted . one by one, family by family.I believe I have a copy of it on tape . have to visit the basement, find it, and replay it.
