Star Ocean EX Audience Reviews

Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Pluskylang Great Film overall
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
demona_3 Claude and his father are on their mission to investigate the unexplored planet, Mirokinia. When they arrive at the planet, Claude mysteriously gets transported to another planet called Expel. Wandering around in the woods trying to find a way back home, he saves a girl named Rena from a monster with his phase gun. Rescued by him, she tells him that he is the Legendary Warrior of Light whom she been looking for. In search of Sorcery Globe, which is believed to be the source of evils, Claude and Rena set off on their journey that will determine the world's fate? It says this anime was discontinued by the manufacturer so they no longer sell this.
Timothy McKann When I first learned that the most popular video game was going to be a series. I've never imagine that this one would be it. But after checking out the trailer,I had to see it,and I did. When my father got me the series for Christmas,it was just like playing the video game once again. It was a spectacle to see,and I really enjoyed it. It kinda had the same story line, and the characters were almost the same as the ones from the video game. Another thing about the show is the places that the characters visited. My favorite characters in the series are:Opera,Ernest,Celine, and Dias. And my favorite funny parts were Celine using her magic on 3 Thugs, and Ashton falling in love with Barrels (Note):If he like them so much,he should marry them. But however, this show is one of the best. So in closing,if you have played the video game, then watch this series. It's the best.
cutepiku As one of the biggest fans of Star Ocean: The Second Story, I went and saw this in Japanese as soon as I heard it came out. I was excited to see my all time favourite game come to life through animation, and sat down, beaming, and waiting for a good time. Now, I was young, and even then, with my easily swayed mind, did the anime make me feel like a little bit of me died. Not only does half the animation consist of still pictures, with a shaky camera, the characters all seem to cliché (with the exception of Ashton, nothing they could do to him could make him cliché).It follows the story of Claude C. Kenni. That was one of the first biggest flaws. The game gives you the option to follow his story, of Rena Lanford's. Claude's story is very simple, and it's only "I want to surpass my father", kind of thing. Definitely something you could see elsewhere. Rena's story is a little more complex, and though I am biased towards her, many of my friends agree that Rena's side would have been better.Next, the characters seemed to get younger, and therefore, less mature, and less likable. They made Claude even more annoying, with him getting jealous at Rena for wanting to support her childhood friend, Dias. Sure, he does that in the game, but he didn't take it so hard, and sulk.Rena is suppose to be 17. They made her seem 12. She seems way too innocent, and her voice is too high, to add to the innocence. The creators thought it would be a good move to make Rena more cutesy, but she would have fared better in her original, more mature game form.Celine is now a prick. She used to be girly, and cute, and she still is. They just added making her seem like she just wants to get it on with Claude, as well as Dias at first. Celine was one of the most mature women in this game, and now she is an idiot.Ashton is almost the same. Except he is only comedy relief. He was a bit of the comedian in the game, but now all he lives for is to make the audience laugh. I laughed at him. In pity. He was my favourite character, and still is, but they made him into a dunce.Precis remained relatively the same, which I appreciated. I surprisingly, however, miss her helium voice.Dias is the same in the anime. Until you watch it in English. In Japanese, he is cool, and serious, but when you watch him in English, he seems almost.. possessive about Rena.(I won't bother talking about anyone else) In the English, the translators I am sure, have never even heard of the game. They pronounce the names wrong. How do I know this? Well, you play the game, and when people die, and you character likes them, they yell their name. Also, I paid attention in the Japanese version. The only reason I gave this anime a 6, is because Japanese is pretty good. The actors have emotion, and the characters seem to be more like their game counterparts. You listen in English, and the characters take on whole new personalities. In conclusion, only if you are a true fan of Star Ocean 2, do I recommend watching this anime. And even then, don't expect to much, unless you simply want to see some Star Ocean.
lostmercenary99 Oh hell yeah!!! Hard hitting non stop action accomplished with amazing directing and animation skills!!! Love it!!! Oh wait... no... that was the game.This... this is just... well... bland. As a massive fan of the PSX game "Star Ocean: The Second Story" I was very eager to watch this anime when I first heard about it. Boy, was I in for one hell of a disappointment. While the writers try hard to keep the characters true to their game counterparts I don't think they are as believable. Claude in particular who is probably one of the biggest cliché hero's in anime history. The show seems to make the female characters go head over heals for the guy as soon as he meets them. Rena, Celene and whoever else you want to name. Claude's whole attitude is another example. Once he makes a decision, about something or someone, he changes his mind for no damned reason. Just so that the plot can move forward. And it moves forward like a cripple without a wheelchair. Ashton however is probably the best character in this anime and probably the shows biggest redeeming quality (he's the only reason I gave this show a 6/10 rating). he sticks more or less true to his video game counterpart and his scenes of humour are brilliant(in some cases better than the game).Animation. It's more like a slide-show. Especially with the action. Over and over throughout the series it's the same repeated shots for battle scenes(e.g Claude's main attack). Maybe these guys should take some tips from Naruto or FMA on how to do a good anime fight. Maybe they were trying to stick to the method of what a games battle system was like or maybe they were just lazy sods through and through.Music. Well I'm not entirely sure how to judge this. The soundtrack seems pretty lax at points but in others seems rock solid. Oh but I will mention I found the opening credits song "To the Light" extremely catchy even though some may disagree with it. Meh... is all I say to that.Overall this is not really something to watch if your not familiar with the games story. Mainly because it ends on a sodding unresolved cliffhanger but that's not the only reason (see above for why else). This mainly serves as a bit of nostalgia for the fans of the game and that's about it.
