Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
mc_croucher The story line of Season of the Witch is definitely an action oriented movie. While the action was both intense and suspenseful, it didn't give enough room for the character's to develop more and become someone who you related too. Get performance from Nickolas Cage. The "witch" was both alluring and captivating. She made you question a lot: Is she a witch? OR is she possessed? Am I missing a piece here? Is this an illusion that they are in? Either way, the action and intensity of the movie was great, however, once particular things are reveal they storyline become just like the rest of those action packed witch movies.
schuster_mark I watch a lot of movies. I've seen a lot of Nick Cage's movies. Some are better than others - but he always seems to deliver "something" in each and every one. He's got this odd, weird - psycho kind of persona that just works in these adventure/fantasy/horror flicks. These kind of films just need the main actor be a tad "off". Trust me, there have been other films were he's been certifiable crazy - and this one pales in comparison in spots - but yet there is still that unmistakable Nick Cage fingerprint.I love Ron Perlman too. The banter and friendship between him and Cage was enjoyable. I love Perlman in the "Hellboy" series. I loved him in this for all the same reasons. It was like "Hellboy", but without all the makeup.I've read in other reviews people didn't like the special effects. I loved them - and thought they were excellent. Nothing about them was distracting - only an asset to the movie.I highly recommend this movie. It's fun, exciting, scary at moments - and well worth a watch.
Python Hyena Season of the Witch (2011): Dir: Dominic Sena / Cast: Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, Claire Foy, Christopher Lee: Misfire medieval mess about trials. It opens with about a million battles scenes before two knights, played by Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman have had enough of women and children dying. Eventually they are assigned to transport a witch to a monastery in order have her tried by the monks. She is blamed for the black plague that has been sweeping the land. Directed by Dominic Sena who previously made Kalifornia as well as direct Cage in the pathetic Gone in Sixty Seconds. He is backed with effective visual elements of castles and winged creatures but his actors are at the mercy of lame writing. Cage and Perlman as this buddy knight duo is laughable. They will trek this witch in a cage while allowing her to screw with their brains. They are joined by some young sap who wishes to prove himself, as well as a Priest whom the witch fears. Then there is Claire Foy cast as "The Woman." She is blamed for the plague and will spend much of the film locked up before she becomes a giant winged creature with all the intimidation of a Care Bear on acid. She is also involved in a lame "I need to know about these men who died for me" sequence in the conclusion that is just lame. Christopher Lee makes an appearance to which one hopes he was paid really well for such an embarrassment. If you thought The Sorcerer's Apprentice was a stupid career move then Cage double bills it with a film that should never be seen by anyone at any season. Score: 3 / 10
Wizard-8 I put off seeing "Season of the Witch" when it first came out not only to the bad reviews, but because Nicolas Cage was in the cast, an actor who doesn't exactly rub me the right way most of the time. After finally seeing it, I have to admit that I didn't find the movie absolutely terrible. Cage, for one thing, gives a decent performance here, and like the other principle cast members, comes across as quite likable. And I have to admit that I was never bored by the movie - it moves pretty swiftly from scene to scene, and never get bogged down. And the filmmakers manage to capture what medieval life must have been like for its inhabitants, with an effective cold, dirty, and primitive atmosphere.Yet despite all that, there is something quite unsatisfying about the entire enterprise. I couldn't pin down the reason for a long time, but I finally realized that the script is inadequate for a couple of reasons. There isn't much of a story here - most of the movie consists of a journey. A bigger script problem is that the characters are pretty thinly written. While the cast might make them likable, we learn little about them, especially with the character of the accused witch. As a result, it's hard to care about these people and what their eventual fates turn out to be. Not a terrible movie, but in the end it's quite disappointing.
