When this year's round of unsuspecting Northerners fail to show up for their annual Guts N' Glory Jamboree, the residents of Pleasant Valley take their cannibalistic carnival on the road and head to Iowa where they encounter spoiled heiresses Rome & Tina Sheraton and the cast and crew of their "Road Rascals" reality show. Performing "The Bloodiest Show on Earth", our Southern Maniacs prove more than ratings killers in what John Landis has called "one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original".

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams Audience Reviews

GamerTab That was an excellent one.
Spidersecu Don't Believe the Hype
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Paul Magne Haakonsen I bought this movie because of two things; the first reason being that the original "2001 Maniacs" was actually quite good, and the second reason being that this sequel had Bill Mosely in it.Then I sat down and watched this movie, and wow, what went wrong here. This sequel should never have seen the light of day. It was terrible, and it was an insult to part 1. The story was weak from the very beginning. The southerners taking their killing acts on a road trip? Come on! It was so lame. This movie was lacking interesting death scenes that you had in the first movie. The killing scenes in this movie was nothing short of ridiculous. It was lacking gore, lacking cruelty, lacking inventive thinking.Wouldn't you think some good acting would bring the movie up a notch? Yes, you would, wouldn't you? Well, just a shame that this movie didn't have any good acting in it! Oh my God, it was an eyesore to watch and practically physically straining to listen to. It was like watching wooden puppets that had really bad ventriloquists doing the dialogue. I have seen some of the people in this movie in other movies and their performances in those movies far outshone the stuff they did here. It was like everybody was in this movie with only half a heart. There was a scene where the northerners saw their friends murdered and mutilated. No shocking responses, no screams, no nothing. It was so lame. And when they were given a chance to leave, they could just run out of the maniac's small tent fair and run away, but no... Of course they didn't! The movie was just one lousy error after another. Not even Bill Mosely did anything to improve the overall impression of this movie. His performance in "2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams" was nothing to remember or be impressed by.Having sat through this horrible sequel I feel very cheated, especially because I paid money for it! And get this; on the DVD cover of the Extreme Edition DVD version it says, and I quote, "one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original. - John Landis". What the...? Did John Landis even watch part 1 to have something to compare this joke of a movie with?If you like horror movies and if you liked the original "2001 Maniacs" movie, do yourself a favor, and stay well clear of this movie. It is not worth the time or effort, and it brings shame to the original movie. Don't let it taint your impression of the original movie. This was only 'horror' in the sense of how bad the movie was!
jimgoebel1 Just finished watching 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams on netflix...I hate to say it, but while I was a big fan of both the HGL original and the remake, this sequel to the remake was nowhere near as good as those. A few things I didn't like about this one, the few northern characters I liked died early on, leaving two characters to battle at the end that I despised. I felt no emotional connect with them, unlike the surviving two characters in the original 2001 Maniacs. Secondly, the sound editing was just atrocious. Third, I didn't care for the actor they got to play Harper. I'm not going to comment one way or the other on the basic story, as it did feel like (at least to me) that this film was a bridge to another part of the saga. The only thing I really did truly like about this film was the ending after the credits. I must admit I got a good chuckle out of it.
lastliberal OK, I'm a Christa Campbell fan, and have almost everything she has appeared in. I will watch paint dry if Christa is standing in front of it. So, I expected to see her, and I expected the same fun I had with the first film.I was sorely disappointed that the film didn't have that magic of the first film. It was a collection of racial and sex jokes with occasional displays of feminine pulchritude. Some of that display came from the fake Paris & Nicole filming a reality trip to the South. You know you can't wait to see them get it.But, it was really just a version of Hee Haw the way we would have liked to see it. Maybe without the gore.Still, it had Christa Campbell, and she managed to keep me interested until the end.
privatebleeding The previous 2001 Maniacs was pretty good. I was surprised that the parts between the murders were just as fun the deaths themselves (unlike HG Lewis's original). This sequel to the remake, however, is an absolute travesty where NOTHING works.I'm all for a bad movie, but this one made me angry. The characters are the definition of cliché, the dialog is miserable, and the actors do nothing to even slightly improve upon the crap they're given to work with. Everyone puts on an accent or persona they simply can't pull off. Even Bill Moseley stinks. Every one of his lines comes off as something you'd find on the gag reel. He laughs through each line as though he no longer wants to laugh. The worst part of this wreck is the merciless attempt at comedy. Trust me, there is nothing funny about this movie! When one joke fails, the viewer moves on. When every joke fails, the viewer gets enraged, especially when each stone aged joke relies too heavily upon multicultural racism and flamboyant homosexuality. This movie is worse than bad. This movie is, by and large, a sheer waste of time and energy.
