Despite being well into adulthood, brothers Doug and Steve Butabi still live at home and work in the flower shop owned by their dad. They exist only to hit on women at discos, though they're routinely unsuccessful until a chance run-in with Richard Grieco gets them inside the swank Roxbury club. Mistaken for high rollers, they meet their dream women, Vivica and Cambi, and resolve to open a club of their own.

A Night at the Roxbury Audience Reviews

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
TinsHeadline Touches You
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
SnoopyStyle Clueless brothers Steve (Will Ferrell) and Doug Butabi (Chris Kattan) can't get into the Roxbury and dreams of opening their own club. They are still living with their parents Barbara (Loni Anderson) and Kamehl (Dan Hedaya) working at the hated family flower shop. Family friend Emily Sanderson (Molly Shannon) lusts after Steve who can't stand her. The guys get rear-ended by 80s star Richard Grieco and they finally have an in into the Roxbury. Gold-diggers Vivica (Gigi Rice) and Cambi (Elisa Donovan) sees the guys talking to the owner Zadir (Chazz Palminteri) and assumes that they have money. The guys and writer from SNL Steve Koren are just piling stupidity onto the Butabi brothers. Steve is slightly more likable because he's just stupid whereas Doug has a real mean streak. The problem is that the movie does the one joke over and over again. It's a little cute at times but mostly it's boring. If Doug is a lot nicer, then it would easier to root for the guys. If there is any hope for this movie, it's the bromance with the brothers. This could have been another 'Dumb and Dumber'. Only Doug is way too angry.
johny_bravvo I would like to start by saying I absolutely loved this movie. This is one of my all time favourite comedy movies. This isn't exactly Oscar Wilde humour. It is run in the mill cheap but absolutely adorable humour. Will Ferell and Kris Kattan are so funny as the brothers Doug and Steve Butabi and try all you want to not laugh, you will end up splitting your guts with laughter.Richard Greiko has some a little but very important role to play and he does well, really well.I watched this movie with some good friends, some good pop corn and a couple of beers over a weekend and we all laughed so hard. This is quite the rib tickler. My rating 7/10. Must Watch !!
willfox_17 A friend told me about this film recently, i had seen the you tube clip with Jim Carrie where they all nod there heads to had away which is hilarious! you can imagine my excitement as i found out there was a film! Will Ferrell is why I watched the film, although will is good hes certainly come along way i mean anchorman is amazing! he still very funny in this film. this film is worth a watch it has LOL moments throughout, the dancing, the humping, the nodding its all funny! this film has a lot of catchphrases to no? yes!!!!shame Jim Carrie wasn't in the film as he is in you tube clip for Saturday NIGHT LIVE!overall WATCH IT!
elshikh4 On 31/8/2001 I rented it. Its commercial title in Egypt stood for "An evening that will drive you crazy". Frankly, the reason to rent it in specific was a photo I saw from it earlier, in a magazine named (DVD), where 2 chicks by the names of (Elisa Donovan) and (Gigi Rice) were dancing in tight micro-skirts; which was pretty sexy for me (more than the 2 girls themselves), plus I thought that the movie is a crazy dance movie! Of course I wasn't right. But this movie wasn't that wrong either. I like it. And I have my reasons..Here's what I wrote in my remark page right after finishing it : "So the rich dumb guys became the heroes of today's movies? Huh ?!" too philosophical I think ! However, among the movies that I rented in that summer, it wasn't bad at all. In that list there were: Gladiator, Thelma & Louise, Who am I, Space Cowboys, The Replacements, Pret-a-Porter, and The Perfect Storm (Yes, I list the names of the movies I watch!).From a *disco* point of view you must love it. Since (Can't Stop the Music – 1980), the presence of the disco clubs in the movies became obnoxious. However suddenly in 1998, (A Night at the Roxbury), (Forever Fever), (The Last Days of Disco) and the real obnoxious (54) came together with disco clubs playing big part in them one way or another. It makes me happy to see hot girls dancing on colorful floor anything but Hip-Hop. Did I forget to tell you that I'm a Can't Stop the Music's fan?!In the buddy movie history, there was always the serious rational, kind of smart guy (Mickey Mouse, Oliver Hardy, Dean Martin) and the funny nut job, purely stupid one (Goofy Goof, Stan Laurel, Jerry Lewis). Where normally the first got the best of luck with the girls. But after the success of (Dumb & Dumber – 1994) both of the dual became nut job, purely stupid, guys who got no chance with any sane girl! The producers clearly loved the idea, so (Dude, Where's My Car – 2000), (Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd – 2003), (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle – 2004) were made. (A Night at the Roxbury) is no exception (remember the Jim Carry's reference), but it's more mild and innocent than most of this wave of followers. After years of the first viewing, I caught it on some channel to re-watch it again. But oh boy, with a second viewing or not; I loved moments like (Will Ferrell)'s spasm of "What's up ?!", the perfectly goofy dance, the meeting between the 2 brothers after seconds of losing their virginity to discuss about it, and the lousy (Emilio Estevez) story that turns the girls off; OK, everyone of us sure had one!(Chazz Palminteri) is one scene stealer in here. He's double the charisma of every lead. And the "did you grab my ***" was a clever one. It's something to remember this movie with. Save (Ferrell)'s so deliberate white make-up, the 2 leads looked nice and worked together finely, giving a natural performance with no forced moments, being totally these radiantly dressy, visionary, 30-year-old adolescent misfits. It's sorrowful that (Ferrell)'s career came off later, while (Chris Kattan) didn't achieve anything equal. Despite his obvious talent, I didn't watch him in good movies, rather movies, after this !By the way, this is the best movie Mr. Unbearable, the Horrible Movies' God, aka Richard Grieco, has ever been in, spoofing himself and playing kind of a mentor. Watching him saying wise lines was the weirdest comedy this movie got! I think he was brought because at one "old" point he used to be for the 90s's twenty-something youth, so the movie's leads, including the movie-makers maybe—an idol. And not anyone, he's a one that got lost. Or in another word, the one who the losers love, feeling lucky and successful compared to him. That's a little of bad tasting. But it's this movie's way to honor the 1980s while sneering at it too.Wanna know the truth : (A Night at the Roxbury) isn't an evening to drive you crazy, yet it's well goofy Hollywood comedy to rent in any night. It's diverting 90 minutes. A lot of smiles but not laughs. And the best about it is its ruling childish sense. True that the end was very easy, but that's usual in a light joke of a movie like this, where the word "Hollywood" means "Feel Good" mood or dreamy optimistic time, to soothe the remains of the day a bit. And thank god that it didn't lean to ugly jokes or scenes intensely, having a story about 2 brothers who back up each other's ugliness and dumbness; this is part of the reason why (ANATR) isn't an easily forgettable stuff. One last reason for liking this movie : with Haddaway's What Is Love, No Mercy's Where Do You Go, Ace of Base's Beautiful Life and more; the soundtrack is a terrific piece of nostalgia for the 1990s if you were a regular dancer in that era's nightclubs, or just someone used to listen A LOT to the radio back then!
