House of Voices Audience Reviews

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
alisonlivas This is probably the worst movie I have seen in a really long time, and if you're looking for a film with a protagonist who's motive is unclear this is the film for you. I literally have no clue why Anna did anything she did and I have no clue what this film was actually about. I almost felt like I'd sat down in the middle of the film, and I'd been watching from the beginning. There is no payoff in this movie either, when the credits rolled I was mostly just annoyed that I'd wasted an hour and a half of my life. It wasn't scary, the scenes were disjointed and seemed to be put together almost randomly. The editing looks like whoever did it barely tired. The acting was horrible and there was very obvious ADR work that was also done terribly. So, if you're looking for something for a crappy movie night, this is a great pick.
justin-pisciotta I never heard anyone speak about "House of Voices" before. I never heard any reviews and had absolutely no idea as to what this movie was about. All I knew about the film was that it was "ghostly." I watched,I listened, and wondered where the movie was trying to carry the audience. The pace of the film allowed me to position myself in the characters shoes.I could only imagine the sadness and pain that this character had to deal with. My imagination grew eerie, gloomy, and sad,(magnified by the location, score, and color scheme of the film). As this film slowly moved on,the film began taking me from my existence to places I couldn't have dreamed of.By the end of the film I felt cold, confused, and sad. This film did a lot for me emotionally. As an intellect, this film gave me a natural high, jerked my mind around a bit, this film was disturbing, I can't explain why I like this film so much!I gave this film a 10!
davish-wulf I don't know what trauma the writer of this script had or even the director in their childhood.I don't know either what is their conception of terror, horror or scary....The only thing scary in this movie was my self being afraid of wasting yet another almost 2 hours watching this piece of crap.Starts out well, nice cliché photography, then goes worse and worse and worse... close ups, pumping music leading to NOTHING, a girl more scary than a squirrel on rabbies with huge teeth and zombie-like figure running around pointlessly.... what next? Filmed in an abandoned house? Perhaps the most expensive thing was to clear out some hospital corridors to take yet more close-ups of the beautiful and misguided main actress. As any usual french movie, some shots of her nude, completely unnecessary but she might get the front page of a playboy magazine or attract more ingenuous people (like me) to watch this slow torture.... avoid like the PLAGUE.Fail
The_Void Director Pascal Laugier came to the attention of horror fans in 2008 with his well received (though in my opinion disappointing) film 'Martyrs', but four years earlier he made this film - and I'm not surprised he didn't make much of an impression with it. Most of the literature I read about this film before seeing it pointed to it being boring, but for some reason I thought I might enjoy it in spite of that. Unfortunately, however, most of the reviews are spot on; House of Voices is slow to start, and stays that way right until the end; providing a scant lack of interest on the way. The film focuses on an abandoned French orphanage named Saint Ange. A cleaner named Anna Jurin arrives to clean up the place prior to it's reopening, and discovers that the orphanage is still inhabited by one orphan; Helena, who has learning difficulties. After a while (it seems like an eternity), strange things start happening and Anna is not sure whether it's real or just in her mind.Even though I sat right through this film, I still don't have much of an idea what it's about or what the point of it is. The film gives its audience no reason at all to care about the plot or characters (incidentally, one of the main criticisms I had of 'Martyrs'). It would appear that the director felt he could wing it on the style alone - and while the style of the film is very nice (and the only positive), it's not enough to completely carry it. The central location is good and the empty halls and catacombs are very atmospheric. The lead role is taken by Virginie Ledoyen; who thankfully provides some eye candy and even has a full frontal nude scene (which is the highlight of this tepid film). The film occasionally tries to scare its audience, but this doesn't happen enough. There's actually less scares in this film than in your average modern Japanese ghost film! The plot is confusing too, but to be honest I was past caring once I'd got past the first half of the film. Overall, watching this is a complete waste of time and I don't recommend it.
