Roman Sampson One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
gwnightscream This 1982 horror film begins with a woman attending her father's funeral and she learns that he used psychic powers on victims. Meanwhile, a college girl is sent by 2 sorority sisters to spend the night in a mausoleum as part of an initiation. They try to scare her, but become trapped inside with the man's powerful, spirit unleashing other corpses/bodies which terrorize them. Meg Tilly (Psycho II) and the late, Adam West (Batman) are featured. This isn't bad, but I think it could've been better. It kind of has a "Phantasm" vibe with some gory make-up effects and a chilling score. Give it a try at least once if you're into horror.
callanvass This one had a ton of potential, believe it or not. It's drenched in creepy atmosphere. The problem is that it's so damn dull, by the time everything happens, I simply didn't care anymore. I've always found Mausoleums to be extremely creepy, perhaps even creepier than a cemetery. The storyline is good, if a little clichéd. We've seen snobby girls wanting to perform an initiation before in horror films, but it works more often than not. This does have some decent boo scares in the finale, but they don't know when to quit. There are WAY too many shots of corpses popping up, with endless shots of blue lightning coming from a psychic zombie. It felt like a broken record with how much they were showing it. I was bored senseless for this long, only for that to commence? Nothing much happens for the first hour or so, and that's how I get repaid? Way to make your viewers angry, McLoughlin! Also… why on earth would anyone agree to spend a night in a creepy Mausoleum, just to pass an Initiation test? I too, wanted to be popular back in school, but never would I agree to that. It was so moronic. I would have said screw you. You can tell this is the 80's, because we get cheesy obsolete terms, such as "noodle brain" The annoying subplot between Olivia McKenna (Melissa Newman) & her dead psychic father got on my nerves. Not much emphasis was put on it. Meg Tilly is decent as the lead. Ostensibly, her hysterical reactions were genuine, as she was legitimately freaked out by the Mausoleum. I don't blame her. She's distinctly sweet, and has this sense of innocence to make her likable, even if she is drugged out in the second half a little bit. Robin Evans plays the token slut as Carol. She did it well. Adam West is known as the original Batman, but doesn't give much of a performance here. The rest of the performances aren't worth mentioning. The only gore we get here are rotting corpses. The P.G rating showsFinal Thoughts: It's atmospheric, but way too dull for me to recommend. I'm not gonna tell you to avoid it, but prepared for your mind to wander half the time. 4/10
Brian T. Whitlock (GOWBTW) This movie "One Dark Night" seems very tame and interesting. With no blood in it, it's still a good horror movie. Here you got a great cast of Meg Tilly, she plays Julie, a high school student who initially joins a clique called "Sisters" lead by Carol(Robin Evans) who happens to be Steve's(Robert Mason Daniels) ex-girlfriend. Along Carol is Kitty (Leslie Speights) and Leslie (Elizabeth Daily) who make up "The Sisters" test Julie so they make her one of them. There was a funeral earlier which a man named Raymar was interred into a mausoleum. He was delving into the occult and acquired telekinesis. His powers stayed active after his death. The three "Sisters" picked up Julie, dropped her off at the mausoleum, and went on their plan. All except Leslie. The estranged daughter, Olivia (Melissa Newman) hears the story of her father gaining power and abusing it, she knows what to do next. The other two members of the clique go on with initiation, unaware of Raymar's powers are in full force. This movie was coming close to becoming a zombie movie. It was still scary though. No fear, and vanity did the trick for Olivia. Goes to show that cliques aren't worth your life! Great movie, it got Adam West from "Batman" fame playing a non-positive person, and Kevin Peter Hall as Eddie. He can really play ball there. This movie is worth the watch! 3 out of 5 stars!
stumaczter1 Let me start by saying I was only 2 when this movie came out but I loooove a good low budget 80's horror flick especially early & mid 80's(cheesy or not!)...a few good ones that I can think of off the bat are "Demons"..."Demons 2"..."Happy Birthday To Me"..."April Fools Day"..."Slumber Party Massacre"..."Witchboard"..."Chopping Mall"..."The Evil Dead" etc. BUT this movie is TOTAL garbage the special effects are crap (even for a low budget film),the storyline is whack & does'nt hold your interest...the acting is bad & not in a "so bad it's good" way...the killings are lame & ridiculous...& the finale was really poor! I kept waiting for it to get better but sadly the movie never lifts off,I can't believe people said this scared them when they 1st saw it cause this movie IS NOT scary! I watched this with my girlfriend on Friday (she also loves 80's horror) & when it was over we just watched each other & rolled our eyes then she buried her face in the pillow shaking her head & laughing in disbelief. Anyway enough of me slandering this doo doo pile of a "movie"...I actually feel awkward as I'm blasting this movie so much cause I'm not really a negative guy & I always try to find something good about movies I watch but I had to make an exception here because this film is that terrible! Those people that gave this movie a good rating & said it scared them must've been on acid when they watched it!
