The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared Audience Reviews

TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Lars-Toralf Storstrand Not quite «Millennium» - and yet quite Swedish. The humor is quite home-knit, but parts of it are quite excellent, and the style is clearly Forrest Gumpy in flavor. However, it would be fair to say that something like that could never, ever happen outside of Scandinavia - if at all.The films about the 100 year old Allan Karlsson who skips his home for elderly people and runs away with 50 million Swedish kroner (6 mill dollars) and then spends it all in a year - before going back to Sweden to get some more, unknowingly that he has it with him all along, is the kind of fun that never explodes, but makes you chatter slowly through it all.Just like Forrest Gump.Rumors (at least) says a remake is on the way, with Will Ferrell in the main part. Can't quite see how this will be Americanized, though.
Tkbn3812 The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared is a best-selling 2009 Swedish book. Now, it has been adapted into this 2013 film, and is certain to entertain with its pure unique and fun plot. The film is as unique as the book, with a ridiculous yet humorous plot about the 100 year old man who runs away from his retirement home and gets into all sorts of mess along the way.The film is paced well, with the narration of the old man keeping the film moving, and helping to transition as smoothly as possible from the present to Allan's past. The wild plot, pieced together by every event in the story, shapes the characters and makes the film even more humorous, as viewers truly appreciate the great coincidences that help keep them, especially Allan, out of trouble. However, the film doesn't quite adapt the book perfectly. The book is quite a long read, and so naturally many plot elements needed to be left out. While many readers would have seen this as a negative, instead I think it makes the film much easier to watch, or else it would have been too long and overflowing. Regardless, more time could definitely have been spent on Allan, the 100 year old's, younger days. Many plot points were also changed, for example the omission of Allan's first Bali visit as a younger man. The book is also better at linking Allan's youth with the present. Even so, with such a complex and long book there was great risk in creating a bad movie; the producers certainly did not fail. The book is a fun read, and this film is a fun watch. Yes, the book was better, however this isn't a surprise; if the entire book really were adapted it'd be a significantly longer film. The film is still definitely a great watch; just make sure you have subtitles though, a lot of the film is in Swedish.
room102 A movie from Sweden. Although released in 2013, it's nominated for the 2016 Oscars in the Makeup category. An older guy in a nursing home goes out the window and runs away. During his journey he tells his life story. The atmosphere, style and black humor reminds me of TAXIDERMIA (2006) (an excellent weird movie from Hungary), although it's not nearly as extreme.Excellent makeup, well deserves of the Oscar nomination. The lead actor, who plays a 100-years old man, was actually 48-years old when the movie was shot and most his on-screen time is in full makeup. According to IMDb's trivia, he estimates to have spent a net total of 3 weeks non-stop in makeup. The movie is so-so. Starts well, in large it has a FORREST GUMP vibe - a simple man who somehow manages to make a lot of influence on history. But at the end it loses its way; It drags and leads to nowhere.Good cinematography, good score, very good production value.Worth watching, but not impressive as it could have been; Better watch TAXIDERMIA instead if you haven't seen it yet.
