Seven friends from Sacramento, California head out on a documented road trip to Las Vegas. Their trip takes a very unexpected turn for the worse when their back tires mysteriously blow out. A couple miles down the road, they find a little gas station Diner/Motel, run by the most friendly, polite and "helpful" people. It appears that their problems are solved, but boy are they wrong! When convinced by "The Helpers" to stay overnight, the friends all wake up in their rooms to a new kind of gruesome and bloody terror!

The Helpers Audience Reviews

Cubussoli Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Micitype Pretty Good
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Michael Ledo The film opens with a story about 23 orphans being killed in a fire. The rest of film is us figuring out what this had to do with the rest of the film with flashbacks to "10,000 Maniacs" and "House of a 1,000 Corpses." Seven young adults taken a back road into Vegas, a too common horror film set up, and find themselves stranded at a friendly bar and motel. Then the clever killings start, 1 person at a time in a slow methodical manner. I give them a plus for that.Dallas Lovato played the role perfected by Sherie Moon Zombie. She did a fair job, but they didn't let her go. There were a few good characters, but the rest, especially Claire (Kristen Quintrall) were mostly cardboard. The on screen horror chemistry and mood wasn't there. When Claire was attempting to hide, her continuous whimpering was more annoying than anything. Kill her, let's move on I kept thinking to myself.Once the film did tie together to that orphan thing..."Really? That's it?"They also had trouble with the title. The first title (used in UK) was "The Helpers" which actually related to the film, even though it lacks any horror factor. The US title, "No Vacancy" is a better horror title (We don't get a picture of little fuzzy chipmunks trying to help people) but it doesn't relate to the film other than the fact it has a motel in it, which BTW always had a vacancy. With "Motel Hell" already taken, the pickings are slim. Some attempt at dark humor like "House of a !,000 Corpses." If you need a slasher film fix, you could do worse.Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity (Rachel Sterling- Juggy dancer on "The Man Show")
GL84 Heading off on a road-trip, a group of friends get stranded near a roadside motel and decide to stay the night only to awake in the morning tied up and being forced to undergo grueling, brutal tortures for a past revenge and must find a way to battle their captors to escape alive. For the most part, this one wasn't all that great. What really tends to work well here for this one is the fact that there's quite a nicely believable and enjoyable first half which really dispels the notion of the upcoming horror quite nicely as there's a lot of fun to be had here. The shots of them sitting around partying and hanging out at the motel before it all goes down, and it makes for some rather cool times with their ability to keep this section of the film quite interesting. When it leads into the series of tortures and other tactics committed against the group, that does make for a somewhat more enjoyable time here with some rather fun and exciting tortures throughout here which are much more prominently based on actual tortures being imposed on them which makes for a rather decent time here. With them really running through some solid tortures in the various rooms as in them being tied up to trucks or strapped into chairs above bathtubs filled with water holding a live wire above it, the ideas behind them are kinda cruel and makes for some chilling moments as there's a nice sense of twisted brutality to their madness which is rather fun to watch and sets up the finale nicely as there's plenty of fun chasing and brawling occurring throughout that makes for quite a fun and really enjoyable time throughout here. These, though, are all that really work for this one since way too much of it isn't all that appealing and features a multitude of big flaws. The main issue to be found here is the fact that there's just absolutely nothing about the villains that makes them someone to be feared or scared of, being the usual assortment of wackos that are simply in the position of power through drugging everyone and it really seems like a situation where it would be quite easy to get the upper hand on them if an actual, honest attempt at putting them away were tried, and as they go for the tormenting and torture route this doesn't get any better. As a main genre this is simply old and tiresome which really just makes for a rather overdone and quite bland outing here as there's just not a whole lot of interest here generated from that plot line. Then to top if off there's the utter gall of the film to try to tie in their actions with the backstory delivered by them which is so utterly obnoxious, condescending and truly pathetic that it never once comes across as anything but a total joke. Based on such a lame reasoning in the first place at wanting to find revenge on the guilty party only for that to be the tie into the simply most ridiculous manner of carrying it out which has no need to ever be attempted here truly turns this whole part of the film into quite the pain to get through trying to rationalize the true nature of what's going on which is quite pathetic. This here makes this one such an utterly torturous watch that it really overcomes many of it's positives otherwise.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and Brief Nudity.
bowmanblue Sometimes you have to wonder whether there are any American teenagers left in the country. Another car-load of them has only gone and broken down in the middle of nowhere and found themselves fall foul of... whatever the latest crop of psychos lie in wait for them. It's nothing new, but then horror has little 'new' left in it, but at least we can hope for an entertaining ride. Sadly, 'entertaining' isn't a word I'd use to describe 'The Helpers.' The word I'd use is 'annoying.' We're used to annoying teenagers running right back into the clutches of the killers instead of sprinting for the hills as fast as they can. But, here we have not just the stupidest seven teenagers ever (yes, expect all the clichés, i.e. not bothering to actually kill the baddies, only running away leaving them to get up again and continue the pursuit), but also the most annoying baddies ever. It's actually hard to tell the difference between the annoying teens being stalked and the annoying teen killing them. It's like a convention of shrieking MTV presenters being doused in red paint. The killers have no credibility about them. They're not scary, just irritating. And their backstory regarding why they're like they are doesn't really hold up.Then, to add final insult to injury, the film-maker includes many sections of 'found footage.' If you don't know what that is, then you obviously haven't been watching enough low budget horror movies these days. It's basically the most overused technique in film-making that allows a slender budget to try and be stretched to the breaking point. The Helpers adds nothing new to the horror genre. It borrows elements of far better films, such as Hostel, The Hitchhiker and Vacancy. My advice: watch one of them instead.
JamieWJackson *** WARNING: RAMPANT SPOILERS ***OK, there's some acting ability amongst the cast, and there was some (but only some) decent filmmaking on display here (camera work, lighting, etc., good in places but not always), and a few scenes were disturbing, so I could almost give it a 3, but it was just SO DUMB in SO MANY PLACES that I had to go with a 2.NONE of the following problems should have survived into the film; they should all have been resolved prior to shooting:* protagonists got off course too easily; none ever heard of a map?* all 4 tires should have blown, not just 2* even with "only" 2 simultaneous blowouts, nobody went back to see what had caused them* nobody was suspicious/bashful about all the freebies* there was a debate (albeit tiny) about whether to stay, but no alternative suggested... were they considering just wandering around in the desert all night?* motive for the killers was unconvincing* with all the surviving killers in one place, held at gunpoint, the surviving protagonists LEFT THEM there and RAN AWAY... but only back into the buildings, allowing further attacks {facepalm}This is TERRIBLE writing -- and I stopped there only to save time. This movie has a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews. The above list should help provide clues for the few reviewers who remain in need of them. There's nothing essential in this film, unless you just need a Dallas Lovato fix or something. (She is awfully sexy here; hoping to see her more.) Of course, if we're mentioning eye candy, the lovely Rachel Sterling is on parade, but she doesn't get to do much real acting here. Her big scene to show some acting skills comes across as pretty weak; I've seen girls act more terrified of small critters than she did at the imminent prospect of being fatally ripped apart. I found myself wondering if she had been confused about which of them was wearing the anti-scream shock collar.Wait, I take that back... there is just one thing that was kind of different. The black guy DIDN'T die first, and in fact got his grudge on and dished out some butt-kicking. So, I could almost give it another point for that, too... but I can't because my brain hurts too much from all the plot holes.
