Woodyanders Six college students get a job cleaning up a rundown old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. The group find themselves in considerable jeopardy after they stumble across an ancient spell book and accidentally awaken a bloodthirsty she demon (Adriana Mejia in gnarly make-up) from its many decades of slumber so it can wreak havoc on the living.Writer/director Jay Lee delivers a satisfying smattering of tasty gratuitous female nudity, a smidgen of strenuous sex, oodles of tacky, yet grisly in-your-face splatter, and an amusing sense of sharp'n'sarcastic humor to ensure that this blithely inane opus remains enjoyable from start to finish. Moreover, the silly and derivative story not only happily rips off everything from "The Evil Dead" to "Night of the Demons," but also is rife with such howlers as a nude distaff spirit who's clearly wearing panties in a few shots and the uproarious fact that the so-called clean-up crew are never seen picking up a single broom or dust rag in order to do the work that they were hired to do. The acceptable acting from the competent no-name cast further keeps this picture on track: Jessica Custodio as the sassy Dana, Zack Kilberg as the likable Iggy, Terry Eriosky as irritating brainiac jerk Tyler, Billy Beck as zonked-out pothead Razz, Laura Bach as saucy tease Heather, Travis Wood as obnoxious and abrasive toolbag Brandon, Jen Alex as the bitchy Alexandra, and Brad Milne as overbearing jerk new owner Carl Stevens. The (not so) special effects are decidedly shoddy, yet still funky just the same. Both Lee's slick'n'stylish cinematography and Chauncey Mahan's shuddery ooga-booga score are up to speed. Fun trash.
pmcguireumc Don't plan on Citizen Kane. It really is a blend of Shaun of Dead and Evil Dead. The advantage is - it has awesome nudity - if that's your thing. From about 10 minutes in to 50, its pretty bad, but the opening and the final are great. well worth a viewing. If you're not expecting a lot of quality throughout - you will not be disappointed. Like i said, the last 15-20 minutes are really funny though. There's a great debate about the old school zombies versus new zombies that i thought was very Scream like and funny. Also a wonderful dialogue about 1:20 between the brother and sister that is reminiscent Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson.
terrible2 I found "The Slaughter" to be an enjoyable viewing, and eons ahead of it's contemporaries... In an ocean of independent (no-budget) horror films, very few shells wash ashore that are worth picking up, but this one worked for me on a few different levels. The story, although we've seen it before, never seems to take itself too serious, which is so important when it comes to these type of films. I've watched far too many (no-budget) horror films that want to be smarter then it's audience, and it has yet to be proved successful... The acting appears to be much stronger then you will normally find in the (no-budget) genre, which always helps to sell the drama. And lastly, they really seem to have taken the time and effort to produce some quality makeup effects, which is almost NEVER seen in these type of films... On the down-side, the film could have done without some of the cheesy visual effects, which hampered the over-all value of the film. (The ghost hands coming out of the floor seemed quite laughable when it shouldn't have, and some of the fat could have been trimmed off the story...) BUT... All in all, "The Slaughter" was an enjoyable effort and worth a viewing for anyone looking for a bit more out of the (no-budget) horror genre.
badmoviessux Don't buy this movie. Don't rent this movie. Don't borrow this movie. Don't watch this movie for free on television. Just don't watch this movie at all. Period. (But if you did buy it, mark it up and sell it to someone you don't like.) What's so bad about "The Slaughter"? (1) The "acting". Is it possible to act without moving your lips?...No. But that doesn't stop the "actors". (2) The "horror". (See number 5.) (3) The "comedy". (Clowns are funnier...and clowns really aren't that funny.) (4) The "effects". It is amazing what $2.33 and silicone can't do. (5) The demon/witch women who had silicone boobs in the "ancient times".You have been warned....
